You've got the deep voice....it comes through on the 416 as it does on the Neumann....just a bit clearer on the raw audio end of things with the 416 but also comes the sibilance when over compressed and over processed. The main draw with the 416 indeed.
I would say you have too much of a steep angle on the mic. And you are clamping the M600 too close to the front where all the off axis rejection occurs because of those vent/grill deals on the mic. I would say clamp the mic on more toward the back. See what that does for the sound.
Just some suggestions. _________________ Ben

I just thought I would mention that Claymation is in fact a service mark...where as Kleenex and Q-tips are trade marks.
I'm just saying.
Yep I looked it up |

Mic position - For VO work it should be in the same room as the VO but that depends on the VO, in some cases in the same room is fine as long as the MKH416 is disconnected. Assuming a certain level of ability (big assumption, I know)The non XLR end of the mic should be pointing at the mouth of the (voice) approximately. Distance - There is writing on the mic, if the artist is able to read it, he is too close.
Sweet spot - The twinkle in Elisa Canas'eyes, the mic doesn't have one it's all up to the VO. |

Actually, if you put 170 Kleenex over the mic and I put 17 Q-tips in my ears, that is when you will hit the sweet spot. Ohhh.....just kidding. I just wanted to bring this whole thing back around with the Kleenex and Q-tips. The joke would have been better if I told it in stop frame animation. _________________ Ben

These are good suggestions for the 416 in general, although often in field audio work the steep-angle is the best way to go. But I'd definitely try moving the clamp to the back. _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover

I guess the main question is do you like what you got Philip? I thought the raw wav sounded pretty darn clean and your voice sounds great with that mic. I bet it will mix in well and cut through (as they are known to do) with music and efx on spots and trailers.
I don't use a pop screen or muff on mine. If you haven't already done so I think on VOUniverse Beau Weaver has some video on Beau Knows that shows his set up as he delivers on a 416.
Sound purchase for you I think!
btw. what's a huttie? |

Threadjack! The episode where Davey wishes he was the only person on the planet gives me the chills (or as David Foster Wallace once wrote, "the howling fantods"). _________________ Skype: globalvoiceover
