Be careful. Broadcasting school leads you on a completely different career path than VO.

Also, if you really, really want to learn broadcasting, community college classes will teach you what you want to know for a lot less money. Financial aid available, but it's so cheap you probably won't even need it. Your instructors will be the same working pros and been-there-done-that types that the broadcasting school has. And you'll likely learn Pro Tools, which is the industry standard. You can pick up Adobe Audition easily just by using it.

In a big city, you can sometimes even find good VO classes at a regular college or university.

You can use that same $10k and get top-notch coaching AND a kick-ass demo AND set up a home studio!

Send me the $10k and I'll arrange all of that for you, and get you an agent!

I graduated from Broadcasting school in 1996. It was the same deal... 10 months....but ONLY $2,000 back then...lol I can tell you from experience.....unless you plan on being a dj...or a news/sports caster....about the only thing that will help you in your VO career that you will learn, is how to time your reads so that if it's a :60 spot, you finish it in 59 seconds, or 29 seconds if it's a :30. The rest is all geared toward working at a station.

That's $235 a week... a grand a month!!!

As others have said, unless radio is your goal... I truly hope you can run away from this "deal." Tuition at our local community college (AA degree in broadcasting, labs, books, supplies etc) for a full time student is only $1,800 a year ... or $3600 to an accredited degree.

I have to concur. I went to broadcast school as well. This was way back when I was 19, and then I wanted to be in radio. If you want VO to be your career I strongly recommend you don't go to broadcast school. I will parrot what everyone else is saying and spend that money on acting classes, getting your demo top notch and getting the basic gear needed to audition and record. Smile

Chistopher, please report back and tell us that you haven't signed anything yet. As I hope you can tell, we would all much rather see you spend a small percentage of that money to get training that will actually help you toward a goal which we all believe is of more interest to you.

Or, come back and tell us all to go to hell. But even if your heart is set on broadcasting school, as you can see from others who have posted, there are much more reasonably priced options.

$10K??? Oh my, no. I take back everything I said because that is TOO MUCH to pay, even if you WANT a station job. You WILL NOT get $10K worth of value from that. For sure you can pick up the same knowledge for less.
