The iPad I bought for my booth will pay for itself in ink & paper savings in under a year.

As for marking up your script, with a clear screen protector you can write directly on the screen with a
dry-erase marker. (For longer docs or major script changes, there are plenty of a Hobo Tounge

s that let you mark up Word docs,
Excel docs, PDFs, etc.)

Other advantages:

Some great mounting options

And oh yeah, the iPad has a couple of other, cool capabilities.

Though mine is not the "I" pad, I heartily recommend going tablet, for all the reasons Doug has stated. I'm a believer.

Jacob what a wonderful idea. I too am a throwback and prefer to read from paper scripts which I mark up all the time as a lot of what I might do involves dialogue and character and changes in mood-highlight pens are my friends. Smile

Technology has come a long way since the pen and the highlighter....

I've been using Moon+ReaderPro.... Android based, with multi-color highlighting, annotation and markup capabilities, and most importantly, auto-scrolling (adjustable on the fly), just like the teleprompter you wish you could afford.

Find it in the Android Market, just 5 bux.... cheap.

I guess I accidentally turned off the notification of new messages in this thread, so I've been out of the loop here since last week.

Rick, to answer your question - all you need is a wireless mouse (and of course, a video card that supports dual monitors). I'm using Windows 7, and you need to go into the Control Panel>Display>Settings to move your "desktop" to the 2nd monitor. It'd be tedious to write down all the steps here - let me know if you need help and I'll run you through it. But it is easy enough to do. So basically, I turn control of my "desktop" over to the 2nd monitor, and I scroll using the wireless mouse in my booth. You could also get a wireless keyboard in there too if you wish to edit copy on the fly, but my booth is too small.

A few issues with tablets - they don't seem to play well with PowerPoint, according to my research. I have a client who supplies scripts in PowerPoint form, so that was a deal-breaker for me. Also, I thought tablets might be too small and I'd have to scroll too often (though I might feel otherwise if I actually was able to try it). Keep in mind I'm a 48 yr old dude who will be needing reading glasses in my not-too-distant future.

When I get the chance, I will record a "before" and "after sample and post it here, to find out if anyone can hear the reflection off my monitor.

was looking into ridiculously expensive KVM splitter boxes (1 PC with multiple keyboards, monitors, mouses). then i accidentally discovered that if you are using the PS/2 mouse and keyboard, a USB mouse and keyboard can be connected at the same time, and both can control the PC. So all you need is a splitter for the monitors.

Something like Input Director or similar allow you to extend your range over a second PC.
