|

Hey folks- some of you, like me use WordPress for your blogs. If you're running a WordPress blog about voice acting, you may have used the "audio-player" plugin for WordPress that lets you embed an audio player for an MP3 file directly in a post or a page.
I've used this on a couple of my WP sites and it works great. However, I ran into a problem constructing my "commercial" site, in which I wanted to host the files in the sidebar and not in a specific page. Specifically, I couldn't just put the audio tag there, as it wouldn't be properly rendered.
So I wrote a widget to handle it! If anyone uses the audio-player plugin and has run into this limitation, maybe this can help you out:

It's been tested on WP 3.0.5, but should work on any version above 2.8. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

Corey,
Thanks so much! I just downloaded the widget and tested it on a site I'm putting together. It works flawlessly!
Thanks for writing the widget and for making it available. Very kind of you. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

That's wonderful, Doug- wow, glad it's coming in handy already. I hated having to hack the PHP code in my sidebars, because it wasn't easily changed and it was clumsy, especially for those without PHP chops.
It should be available in the WP plugins directory Soon(tm), once they get me a source repository. I'll post here once that's done so you can use that version (and get any updates for it).
Let me know if there's something you want in it, the next feature I want to add is a "download link" checkbox that will add a direct download link under the player if the user wants one. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

PHP. What's PHP??? My PHP chops extend to knowing how to spell it.
And yeah, a "download" link would be great. The only other addition that occurs to me is the ability to use characters like
apostrophes and dashes when the label is displayed. Currently, I'm able to type them into the text field, but they don't
appear with the player.
Cheers! _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

Apostrophes not working, eh? I'll see about getting that fixed up. Thanks! _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow

Corey,
Sorry!!!
False alarm on the apostrophes/special characters. I'm pretty sure that it's an issue with my WP theme, and has nothing to do with your widget.
Hope I didn't scare you. _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

No worries, Doug. I hadn't yet had a chance to look into it, but I'm glad to hear it wasn't a bug.
I got the approval for the svn repository this morning, so I should be able to publish an ofificial version by this evening. _________________ Corey "Vox Man" Snow
