VO-BB - 19 YEARS OLD!

So...I'm doing a MOH (message on hold)...which is what you listen to when you call the company and they stick you on hold..so...can anyone tell me why they put the phone number of the company in one of the messages? This is really messing with my brain.

You should not ask such things as you come from a radio background. A radio station broadcasts all its promotional material to people already listening.

Well...there is a chance that while surfing the dial, you can stumble across a new station, or catching a song you like stay on a new station. The never ending stream of call letters that follow will introduce even the most distracted listener to the station...but if you miss dial a company, are you going to stay on hold to listen to the messages?

There you see, defending the indefensible to suit your own agenda! There could be 1001 good reasons for doing what they did, the fact that I can't think of one just means I am elderly, frail and weak-minded unlike the corporate intellectual giants from whom we extract several dollars at a time to deliver their literary and communicatory works of genius.

Just thought of one - It's part of their BRAND ..Hah! Got you!

our small AM station would pop off the air every once in a while and there would be about a minute of dead air as the generator came online and we had to restart the transmitter.

We would come on with all sorts of excuses, "Sorry about that, we just went through a tunnel" "Hey, who turned off their radio?" "That was the latest by John Cage"

I forgot to mention that the same TV station (and others too, I assume) also had a slide that said "We Have Temporarily Lost the Video Portion of Our Signal."

Similar to Monk's story, I once worked at a radio station that operated at lower power during certain portions of the day and switching from 250 watts to 1000 watts required operating with no audio for about 30 seconds in order to retune the plates on the final output tube.

The program director, a very clever fellow named Bruce Nadeau, always constructed elaborate sketches to account for the dead air. One I remember is a kid in a bathtub playing with his rubber ducky and saying "I wonder how long I can hold my breath and stay under water. Here goes." And then at the end of the 30 seconds he would exhale loudly.

Another old standby was to introduce the latest record by Marcel Marceau. Then, after 30 seconds, he'd come back and say something about "not that old walking down the stairs routine again" and move on.

It was often the most entertaining part of the day. That and the spots he'd create for Fred, Frenchy & Charlie at Subland Bakery -- in exchange for the free box of donuts they'd bring in every day.

Years ago when I was a pup in the TV industry I was the "on-air director". That meant I was the one who inserted the local commercials into the network programming. Anyway, the transmitter went down and I got a call from the GM who wanted to know why we didn't put up a slide letting people know that we were off the air. You would have thought the GM would have known better.
