|
|
I recently got myself a portable VO setup -- MacBook Pro, Samson CO1U (USB).
I'm just getting started with GarageBand and was wondering if people had recommended settings. There's no VU meter but what recording level are you setting your mic at? Also, should I be normalizing or running any kind of EQ when I'm doing audition pieces for online sites like voice123.com or voices.com? Any other recommendations using Garageband or another DAW?
I've got myself set up in my bedroom walk-in closet and so far, it sounds like it might work. I hear very minimal room tone but should probably do some more tests and post the audio for you guys to listen to.
Thanks. |

Use your ears to compare with other stuff you hear. I don't know Garage Band. But, you will need to learn how to make your voice sound it's best!
Probably smart to post a sample so we can hear it. You'll get good advice here. _________________ www.asapaudio.com |

You want the recording to average out at -6db, that's the broadcast standard. I had a Samson C01U that I just sold on Ebay last week, but I can't remember what the level was set to, probably around -5 or so.
Yes, you should normalize, remove all mouth noise, and use whatever EQ's you have at your disposal to sweeten the overtones of your voice (to hear them you'll need more than just the speakers on your mac).
Throw up some curtains and some foam to lessen the room noise. A closet is a great studio, I can attest to that!
I agree, post some demos so we can take a listen. |

I think a lot of it depends on the equipment in your chain and your recording environment. I don't use anything...just record, edit, bounce and send it off. |
