Granted the differences are probably obvious given the price points of each pre...but....has anyone had the opportunity to compare?
For auditions and vo-only jobs on the road a cheap chinese condenser (already have some) a small pre and my old laptop with AA3.0 would do the trick. Trying to keep things nice and small. _________________ Wicked huge.....in India.

Both would probably suit your needs fine. But the Mic Port Pro has a higher recording resolution at 24bit-96khz vs the Mic Mate Pro's 16bit--44.1/48khz. _________________ Wild Willie Edwards

I have the MXL and the Micport Pro, and they are in two different leagues. Micport has fully variable gain, and real-time monitoring with a good headphone amp built in, and a superior mic pre. Haven't put ears to the newest offering from MXL, but I venture to guess it will sound very much like the original, just with the additional headphone jack.
Of course, I AM biased, since I happen to sell the CEntrance Micport Pro. In stock now, $149, and I'll ship it free _________________ If it sounds good, it is good.
