Hi George and other technically non-challenged folks:

Okay, my ISDN mixer setup is similar to what George described in Caryn's recent topic, though I have my outputs from the Prima routed into Channels 3 and 4 of the Mackie 1202. First off, there's not a good reason to use two channels,, is there? I'd be okay just devoting a double-channel connection like 7/8, which is currently free, to this routing. Is that correct?

But the main reason I'm posting is that I'm trying to record another talent along with myself through the ISDN. My voice is obviously being recorded directly, through my Main XLR out, and I'm routing my signal to the far end through Aux 1, and as mentioned have incoming signal through Lines 3 and 4. I've been controlling my level on this with the Gain knob on the bottom of the strip and mainly using that to hear the direction. But in this case, I'd like to record that end--As it is now, the level of the far end is very, very low, probably around -22 db or less. I have my Trim turned down all the way. When I boosted it, it didn't seem to matter, though by that point I was trying a little of this and a little of that, so I'm not sure exactly what I did, but I know it was still too low.

Any thoughts/help on what knobs to turn?

There's almost zero reason to bring your Prima into separate channels, unless you need the extra gain from the gain trims. If everything is working correctly and the gain structure is correct, you should have plenty of level coming in from the Prima.

First thing I must ask is what levels are you receiving from your ISDN connection? Does the return from the other end level in your headphones appear very low? Where are the meters peaking on the receive meter of your Prima? And how about on your Mackie meters?

Thanks George--TI'll have to look into the Mackie readings during my next ISDN hookup--The headphone levels are fine and I've been adjusting them with the gain knob at the bottom of the strip--Getting plenty of level in the cans with a Gain setting at maybe about the 10 o'clock position, whatever dbB that equals. And if my Prima LT has a meter, I don't know quite where there would be. Sorry to be dumb. I'll follow on this sson with Mackie readings,.

Well, given the simple architecture of the Mackie mixer, if you are getting plenty of level from your Prima in your cans, then that same signal should be reaching the Main mix bus, and therefore hitting your audio interface with plenty of signal. Your audio interface is getting the signal from the Main Outputs of the Mackie, correct?
Wouldn't you want to separate your voice from those on the other side?
If so then pan your mic full left and the Prima's channels full right. That would get each onto a separate track, if recording in stereo. Then you'd be able to fix it in the mix, as they say.

If this continues to puzzle you, we can arrange a phone support session.

Separate tracks--that sounds like the ticket--Thanks George
