Thanks again to Frank and Greg for helping me dial this in... it just goes to show... KISS principle is best. Any thoughts on the audio...
Before I head in for the night… here is the audio chain… Mojave Audio MA-201… Summit Audio 2BR Pre… Mackie Onyx Satellite I/O… Adobe Audition 3.
File 1 is a read about 6 inches away from the mic and then 1/2 way through backing off to about 12 inches away from the mic… Normalized to 85%... no additional processing

File 2 is the same exact read using the AA3.0 classic soft knee compression pre-set and then normalized to 85%

Any thoughts on this audio? |

I like File 2, the same exact read using the AA3.0 classic soft knee compression pre-set, the first half (read from 6 inches away.)

To my ear, file 2 sounds way too "hot." I'm also hearing some strange sounds at times, possibly mouth noises that have been exaggerated through the compression. (FYI, I am listening to this through my Event Project Studio 6 monitors, not laptop speakers).
Actually, file 1 sounds too hot as well. I know the Summit can be either a tube or a solid state. Are you using the tube section on these files? If so, I'd like to hear you re-do this using the solid-state section on the Summit. I bet you'd have a cleaner sound. (...Or, is the other way around, i.e., you're already using the solid-state).
After 5 years with my own home studio, believe me, I'm still figuring it out too - often by trial and error! _________________ Best regards,

Thanks for taking the time to check these files out. I'm still tweaking, however, I'll upload some new audio this week on the Tube Side and on the Solid State side of this pre. |
