"Har!" there, everyone.
I am teaching a voice-over class at the Orange County High School of the Arts. This coming Monday and Wednesday (and maybe the next week, too), I'll be covering physical materials needed to promote oneself in voice-over.
If anyone, here, has a demo and/or marketing package (brochure, résumé, postcard ...) -- old or new -- that you could send me, I would love to have more examples for the students to look at.
"Interactive" is the key to teaching school, these days. The more stuff they have to stimulate the senses, the better. Lecturing is a thing of the past.
I would need your things PRONTO. (Is that pirate-speak?) And I would SERIOUSLY appreciate having them.
(Wait ... "Serously", not seriously. Like "tempature." That's the way we have to say it these days. But that's another topic.)
If you have anything to contribute, you can let me know here or shoot me an email (That almost sounded piratey.) and I'll let you know where to send them.
Thank you for contributing to the education of juveniles! _________________ Patricia Shanks

NO ONE has any old stuff they would be willing to part with? I'm surprised. Maybe nobody HAS these things anymore. Wow.
Guess I'll revise my lesson plan. _________________ Patricia Shanks

Yipes, I thought someone would have responded to you, if not here, then off the board.
The "marketing package" has really undergone a transformation in the last few years. I used to send out posters and demo CDs. Now I send out e-mail queries or make phone calls and send a note with a link to an MP3. _________________ DBCooperVO.com

Patricia,
I will offer some help on this subject if you would like. PM and even a phone call has been sent off.
I have said it before and I will say it again, the laws of marketing have changed, now the "business" of Voice Overs is actually a part of the criteria in our work.

It seems like a website is more important these days that a brochure.
Like DB, I do a lot of my marketing via the 'net...and when I DO meet people face to face at networking events, I hand them my business card with my web address on it...which is where my demos are.
Given that kids these days (gee...I sound OLD! ) are online so much, it might actually make more sense to them!
Have fun!
Liz
EDIT: Of course I'm still learning A LOT about marketing, so YMMV! _________________ Liz de Nesnera O.A.V. ~ Livin' The VO Dream!

My scheme is similar to the others. I have my websites and my blog. I network online and when I go to networking meetings/have face-to-face encounters, I have my biz card with info on it.
I send out postcards with links or news of latest demos that are available online. I also send out CD's occasionally, but most likely postcards with link.
Hope this helps as part of the whole.
Bless!

Yep, same for me.
The website is the most important. I email people with the link.
I met with an agent last week, I took a hard copy of my demo with me and she didn't even want it. She asked if I could email her the demo later.
The only things I'm still using are business cards and postcards. _________________ www.clairedodin.com |

Thanks, everybody, I hear you, and I agree with everything y'all are saying. I was asked for a physical demo the other day and, instead of first feeling happy that I was asked, I felt annoyed that I would have to put one together and fix my old, scary graphics. Weird.
HOWEVER, my problem is that I have to give my students things to touch and see. We have to have all the senses activated and switch activities from one instant to another.
You know, if I could just teach, it would be great.
I will HAPPILY accept any of your postcards for passing around the room. I don't want anyone to go to any major expense or trouble. You can cross out agent or contact information. Whatever you feel comfortable about. The prettier or funnier the pictures, the better. Clever gimicky lines to make them chuckle. All good.
My studio address is on my www.studioshanks.biz Website. Scroll down. It's on the right side of the page. Thank you for your twenty-however-many cents it is. You have contributed to something. I'll let you know at the end of the semester. That is, if California is still standing after this class. _________________ Patricia Shanks
