Thanks Craig, see the level of competency we have here on the VO-BB. I was just looking for it to copy and here you went and posted the statute.
Most importantly here is the comment to detainment as being "reasonable". This statute is not clearly defining what "reasonable" means. I guess it depends upon what your definition of IS is...

Yup, reasonable suspicion, probable cause, reasonable cause, all very tough subjective standards courts, cops and attorneys have argued since the dawn of time.
Suffice it to say 'probable cause' is the same standard needed for arrest. Anything short of PC and the ice thins quickly. _________________ Craig Park

People mis-spell things. Calling it out is annoying and beneath you.

I agree. I'm a hater of the policy. But my wants and passions have nothing to do with legalities. I only show my receipt at Costco and Frys because I agreed to those when I joined and walked into the store.
I bought and HDTV and said no when asked for my reciept at Best Buy. I ignore them when they ask at Target.
I'm with you on this, buddy. I just don't know if the law is, which is what I'm trying to figure out. _________________ Jeff

Nah....I love calling people out on misspellings... it's not beneath me, it's the "Monk" coming out in me.
That's like saying "People make misjudgements at the CostCo exit." Calling them out on that behavior is annoying and beneath you.
Criminy! I'm in a particularly confrontational mood today... I better go soak my head in Epsom salts for an hour!
Anyway, "priviledge", and "definately" just happen to be my pet peeves...sorry Jeff...you know I love you man!!!
(OK, c'mon, how many of you were thinking: "What's wrong with 'definately'"?)

The next time you are accosted by the goon at the door demanding you show him a receipt at - uhh - that store; say "No, I believe if I have to show proof of my purchase to you and have you rummage through my items, I would just like my money back". Then ask if he is going to check the receipt of your money from the cashier, too.
That ought to send a message. O.K., so you waste an hour or two shopping, but it will send a message to someone. Maybe?
And, hey, with Dave at least the letters are in the right order and mean the correct store... Nom Sayin'
(definately = Common misspelling of definitely)
