Anybody here in the way of Ike? If so, stay dry and safe!

It will be interesting to see what happens.

Talked to my Dad this morning (Houston). He's prepared to "hunker down" and ride it out. Confused

It scares the b'jeebers outta me. My sister lives in Dallas. He should have gone there... stubborn old fart!

CNN Live Streaming

Be careful down there y'all. Flooding's going to be disastrous.

I've often heard the only thing worse than riding out a hurricane is riding out a hurricane @ night.

My family in Houston evacuated...coincidentally my entire family in Dallas are all out of town this weekend. Scary stuff for sure.

There are several people at the anime con this weekend I am at that are from Houston. They are all worried about their families and homes.

Deirdre- looks like I'll be flying over this too Sunday night...ick. Hold on to your seats!!

I hope all of our friends in Texas stay safe- we'll be thinking about you!!

Why is it the worst hurricanes always make landfall at night? My wife was just talking about that last night.

We're seeing lots of steady wind at 25 mph with higher gusts. I was helping put on a tin roof on a barn today and let me tell you that was interesting. Ike's windfield is pretty darn amazing.

There's a bit of coastal flooding too. We're supposed to be seeing 4 to 6 feet above normal tide levels.

I can't imagine what it's like around Galveston right now - or what's to come. Thoughts and prayers to all over that way.

Guess it's just as well that we got stuck at home. We are "standby housing" in case my Houston relatives' power goes out & stays out for an extended period. Of course, if a tornado rips our roof off, I guess we won't be much help, now, will we? I think I have hurricane fatigue.

Deebs & Kara, I hope they route you around the storm. Planes fly above storms anyway, don't they? Here's hoping for clear skies for landing at your destination.

Todd...heads up! I think the heavy rains will be heading your way, too.

BIG Relief!

Dad called this morning. They have some minor damage to their home - rain gutters, screens and such - but they're all OK. They'll be without power for a while, but they have water, batteries, candles and Phase-10 cards. Rolls Eyes

He's on the west side of Houston by George Bush Park and Barker Reservoir. It seems that Downtown and east side by the Bay didn't fair as well. Galveston was trashed.

Austin was expecting to get "kissed" by the outer edge of the storm, with high winds and rain. All we've really had are a few small showers and dark clouds, word now is we still won't see anything severe.

(I guess they had to be cautious in postponing the UT-Arkansas game today, but hey...I've played football in worse conditions! Not that I played very well...)

They said the same as you 007.

Glad to hear it.

Dave, glad your folks are safe. We had rain & wind gusts of 60 mph here. Downed trees which caused power outages in some areas. No tornadoes.

My Houston relatives' homes were unharmed. They were able to buy a generator yesterday, & one of them still has power, so they are staying put for now. We still ended up with overnight guests, though, as my sister's AC gave out while the power was blinking on & off. She also had a tree down on the fence.

Heard from my Houston-area relatives -- they live closer to Conroe. Some damage, power out for who knows how long, but otherwise everybody is safe.

Brian, I always think the same thing... why can't these storms hit during the day?

Glad to hear everyone's family and friends are ok so far. These things are not at all fun.

Ohio got the wind remnants. 60 and 70 mph! 500,000 without power.
I just got my phone and internet back a few minutes ago
