Lots of variations!

Failed to mention my setup was all carryon and had no issues with security, although they did open the bag for a cursory check.

I'm working to make everything simpler/smaller so thinking of springing for a MicPort pro because of all the great things I've heard about it!

What kind of tabletop mic stands do you all use?
At home, I use a mic arm and position the mic off-axis above my mouth...so am concerned about using a tabletopper that would put the mic below my mouth.

Any thoughts?

Also, any former CoolEdit Pro users have any useful software settings for downward expansion?

I didn't want to bring my main mic and was looking for something inexpensive just for the trip. The EEEpc is also less than a quarter of the price of any of the major manufacturer's tiny laptops - and for something for the road I don't need more.

Cool thing about these Atom-based PCs is that with Dell's latest offering, the pricing is probably going to drop by Christmas.

I have to say that after using Melissa's and George's sub-lappys, that I was sold on the idea of getting one and using it with one of my mics for travel purposes. While the smallest ones didn't work too well for me (big hands, small keyboard... you know how it goes), the 10" models look like a winner for those of us with bigger paws.

I've got an XP laptop and despite all the tweaks I've given it the sound is okay. Tonight I set up a separate user account named "Audio" that is pure and clean. I won't even set up Windows Media defaults for it...I simply set up all the display and operating settings I had for the rest of the computer and it's working like a charm.

Now it sounds like it should. This camper is happy.

George--So I guess this means that the Mini 9 has enough processor speed to run Source-Connect? Audio TX? Probably needs a tiny USB hub for enough connections, right? Are there variables in ordering from Dell that need to be considered so the machine is totally up to the task?

Get 1GB RAM, Windows XP, not much else is required (or available). You can add Bluetooth and Webcams for a few bucks each.
AudioTX and Source Connect will both work on the Asus EEE PC, but I can only hypothesize that it will work on the Dell as well, not having had hands on experience with the Mini 9 as yet.
