Can we say GC? I went in today for the big holiday weekend sale, looking for some cheap monitors, and left with 2 mixers.

And two monitors. I had to. They were so cute!

The first one, Mackie DFX 12. Friendly, familiar, dirt cheap.

The really impulsive purchase, a Peavey PV 14 USB mixer. Pretty good price, and I'm thinking, if it doesn't bring any gremlins to the party, it will take the place of my M-Audio Fastrack Pro.

Has anyone had experience, good or bad, with Peavey usb mixers, or usb mixers in general? Either way, I get to play with it for two weeks before I have to commit.

Spending Labor Day in the dungeon ...

USB mixers are a bit of an oxymoron. You can have as many channels as you want, going into the mixer. But they are mixed down to stereo into the computer. in other words, you won't get separate tracks in your audio editor for each channel of the mixer.

Found this out the hard way.

Well "mixing" means combining signals to "mix down" multiple elements into one (or two for stereo).
There are some USB mixers that just send the main mix. The Allen & Heath will send the main and sub buses for multiple channels. The Alesis, Phonic, Mackie, and M-Audio digital mixers can all send multiple channels individually, and some will even return multiple channels separately too.

I currently use an NRV10 which is an 8x2 analog mixer/10x10 digital interface, and I love it.
I don't know the Peavey though, so please share you experiences!
