Would you please let me know on- or off-board how much lead time you had with a script and how your script was formatted: Excel spreadsheet or Movie-type script or something else?

Were you given any storyline info— or historical info about the game if it's part of a series?

Thanks bunches!

yrz,
DeeBz

ok, when I received the script in advance, I got an excel sheet with separate pages at the bottom per character, on each sheet there were different columns with character name, file number, line number, script, and columns with all sorts of codes probably there for the editor.
I also got a separate word document with character description, drawings of the characters and characteristics like type of weapons, special abilities, power ranks and another document stating the title of the game, the name of the client, distribution and support (PC, Xbox, Playstation etc...)
All of these maybe 3 days in advance of the session.

The story line and background was given to me at the session for each section of the games, prior to recording (but I could easily work it out from the script)

Sometimes, I only got the script when I arrived at the studio but was told in advance about characters and type of game.

Same as Claire as to the script being excel with columns on 1 game- script received 1 week in advance. Pictures, character breakdown, history (it was part of a series)- tons of info included.

On another, the script was a .doc with only my part of the dialogue in paragraphs, much like an animation script. Received 2 days in advance. No character pics, but description of the game and character included.

Another gave me the script as I walked in the booth, no time to review (also on excel with the same columns). I already knew the characters, so no description or pictures necessary.

Excel spreadsheet script with my character and the one(s) I was conversing with. I got the script and a given time to record my lines and send them in -- about three weeks.

The writer had sent us all stills of our characters in advance, along with a one-paragraph description of the character's personality and motivations.

When I did the audition for Monopoly Town I believe they sent me an Excel spreadsheet. But I don't recall whether I worked from a spreadsheet or just several pages of lines once I got into the studio to do it for real. I didn't need much in the way of background for that game because nearly everyone already knows Mr. Monopoly. The only thing I needed to know was the character was talking to children who were mostly too young to know how to read.

I did another game called Urban Empires and, for that one, it was just a standard Word type document containing several pages of copy presented as individual lines. The author/director was at the session and filled me in on the scenario for my character and also instructed me as to the attitude each line was supposed to project (i.e. angry, sarcastic, relieved, etc.).

I did the narrator voice for an NBA/NBC/ESPN web game. That one I got a day in advance, but it was a video tutorial narration, so it's really not much different than any other type of typical v.o.

More recently, I did 11 characters for Sacred II, which is an RPG coming out this fall supposedly.

I got the script when I got to the studio, about 15 minutes before the session started. It was about 500 lines in an Excel spreadsheet organized by character...a number of the lines were quite short. (there were also some unscripted grunts / battle cries that I did for some of the characters)

I didn't really get much in the way of backstory, but I had played the first Sacred game a few years back, and the new one seemed to be pretty typical RPG fare...D&D type stuff with elves, orcs, ogres, wizards, lizard people, etc. There were a few notes, but seeing as it was originally written in German and then translated by an Italian company into English (!!) it was good that one of the people from the Italian company as well as an American director were running the session to give me notes on each character as we got to him.

I'm doing another game soon and that one is a very big Word doc with the script broken down by subject.
