So I cashed in some Sky Miles for my plane ticket out to VOICE and was told that I was being upgraded to first class....and I'm scared to death. I've never flown first class, EVER. Can any of you give me some idea of what to expect? I don't want to make a complete idiot out of myself and have seriously considered calling Delta and saying "thanks, but no thanks".

Worth checking what available to you. There may be a car to collect you from home and drop you at the airport, there will be the first class lounge for you to set a spell an sip something cool, on board there'll be a seat the size of a small church and food and drink the like of which the average person can only dream about.

You're kidding, right? Nothing to it -- basically you enjoy more room, better food, drinks, and maybe even some respect.

Enjoy!!! I haven't flown first class since I had my son, so we use the air miles for free coach seats now. Ahh... but I do have the memories.

Thanks Philip! Do I need to dress nice as well? I was planning on jeans during the flight to be comfy but didn't know if that was appropriate. Is tipping involved in first class?

Thanks Diane Smile I've seen some movies that had first class scenes in them so I'm curious about the hot towel thing. Did you guys get that?

Dress well? On that LA flight you'll probably be flying with a celeb or two (like yourself) -- it's all very California casual.
Yep, hot towels and all. And no tipping!

No tips and casual is ok but they'd prefer not scruffy jeans. 1st class will seat a maximum of 12 people, seats in pairs.

Will there be a movie as well? And can I pass on the towel? And right now, according to the seating chart, there's only 6 of us in first class but I heard they will bring up passengers from coach if there are empty seats. Is that true?

You can do whatever you want! Or don't want. Movies, but of course! And they may bring people up from coach who have "status" with the airline -- that has happened to my husband many times -- he flies around on business constantly.

Only downside is you'll never want to fly coach again.

September

They will treat you like the Queen you are. If they offer warm moist towel, consider it. They are quiet refreshing,

REMOVED everyone has told you the good stuff

The airline industry like the VO industry has a strong sense of family. I use to work for Piedmont Airlines as a reservation agent. Years and Years ago.

Have fun! I would have liked to be there no matter how I got to LA. My campaign for the NC House is heating up and that’s the big reason why I knew I couldn’t make this trip.

Just enjoy.. No flip-flops or ripped jeans. That about covers it. Enjoy the meal with real utensils. Happily accept the drinks and enjoy the roomy seat. Take advantage of the first class lounge at the airport and there's no need to get as close as possible to the gate to make sure you have room to stow your carry-on in the overhead. You board separately and it's all covered. Don't be a PITA to your seat mate. You won't ever want to fly the cattle car again.

September,

You've all ready seen pretty much everything you need to know. I've not flown first class on Delta in a long time, but I often get upgraded to first class on US Airways because I fly them a lot and have "preferred" status with them. It's really no different that flying coach except more room, better seats and the food and drinks (alcohol) are free.

Wear what you want. I'm sure you won't look like a hobo.

Bob, your faith in me never ceases to amaze Wink

Thanks everyone for the tips. I'm so much more relaxed about it now! Never thought I'd be flying first class. Here in Georgia, we'd say this is "being in high cotton"! Laugh

You forgot to mention some things:

You have to wear a nametag.
Everyone goes round-robin and introduces themselves and tells their favorite fruit.
You have to perform a monologue in front of the group.
Make sure you know all the words to "If you're happy and you know it"
Ladies must wear corsages. Men, bootineers.
Make sure you read the manual they sent you. There will be a quiz.
