So I was about to pick up a Mic Port Pro and pack my mic when someone in the store mentioned the AT2020 usb mic.

Anyone use it? Any opinions? It would be nice to just pack up a usb mic that comes with it's own little desktop stand - but how does it sound?

Sound is O.K. But, only O.K. The AT 202 has a lot of sibilance (s's, c's, t's are distorted), and you would require a pop filter with this microphone. You will need to be close mic'd for the "proximity effect" to take place, otherwise you will sound really stark. There is no color with the AT2020 USB microphone, so use as a voiceover mic is limited. This particular mic is good for use as an overhead or as a very clean instrument microphone, but limited vocal qualities.

One big problem, you will still need a sound card on your portable PC as there is no monitoring available with the AT 2020.

Toodles

Trust me, stick with the MicPortPro. You will love the flexibility of using more than one mic and it can monitor your mic with zero delay. Plus it sounds really great!

Thanks Frank, George...

Yea, I think that's the way I'm going to go. I actually picked up a Rode Podcaster which has it's own headphone input and tho' it doesn't sound bad, the gain could be a lot better so I'm returning it.

*sigh* I just didn't want to spend $75. for a swivel mount for my KSM27 because I don't want to bring the bulky shock mount. It seems stupid to spend that much for a simple adapter! I'd rather spend a little more and get another mic!
