ya see it's like this ... i'm, shooting this little video project & interviewing this 72 year old lady about the historic theater in town ... her father worked there from a very small boy in 1909 until he was a very old man in 1984. she has TONS of memorabilia ... including a PRISTINE (gold in color) single button ring & spring carbon mic. on a gleaming stainless steel stand. still has the tag hanging from it - and has NEVER been used ... ever. they ordered it sometime in the '20s - then just never got around to using it. it looks like it just came out of the box.

the mic flag on top has a sticker telling the new owner of the mic that they should paint their call letters "here".

oh well ... at least i got to hold it.

btw - no pics - just a VERY short video clip

Todd,

You showed an admirable amount of restraint. Good for you.

why didn't you offer to take it off her hands, cheap....you know...since it's out-dated equipment?

believe me ... i thought about it ... she is, however a VERY sharp lady. it was a terrific interview - i could have talked with her all day.

here's the really funny part ... she had a mic clipped under her collar as i was interviewing her (of course) but when she turned just right the "waddle" under her neck slapped against the mic making a horrid sound - and sometimes flopped upon the instrument obliterating the sound completely, like some fleshy pop filter.

it's funny now ... wasn't then.

Todd --
You could have promised her a career doing voice overs for it! With better mic placement, of course.

that rule applies in a lot of situations, and not at all exclusively to sound engineering.
