This was sent to me yesterday, with today being the date that our cell phones are released. So if this is really true I would recommend calling right away. I did it and it only took me about 30 seconds.

Quote: | REMINDER....all cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies tomorrow and you will start to receive sale calls.
....YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS
To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone:
888-382-1222 .
It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time It blocks your number for five (5) years. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number. |

Thanks for the reminder Frank.
You can also register phone numbers via the web at: National Do Not Call Registry
One thing to note, it takes up to 30 days for the number to be registered which means telemarketers can still call the number for 30 days. After 30 days you can file a complaint. |

Forgot to add this, sorry for the mis-lead:
Quote: | • The Wireless 411 service was to be strictly "opt-in" — that is, cell phone customers would be included in the directory only if they specifically request to be added. The phone numbers of wireless customers who did nothing would not be included, those who chose to be listed could have their numbers removed from the directory if they changed their minds, and there was no charge for requesting to be included or choosing not to be included.
• The Wireless 411 information was not to be included in printed phone directories, distributed in other printed form, made available via the Internet, or sold to telemarketers. It would be made available only to operator service centers performing the 411 directory assistance service.
A national directory will be compiled, but numbers will be included on an opt-in basis. If a cell phone subscriber does nothing, the number will not be listed. When the directory is ready, it will be available only as part of the existing 411 directory service, accessed by calling in and asking for a specific number. It will not be published in a book or on the Internet. And it will not be sold to telemarketers.
Cell phone subscribers can list their numbers on the do-not-call registry if they choose, but there is no deadline to get on the list, as the e-mail messages now circulating suggest

For what it is worth, I have had all the cell numbers in family registered since the initial release of the Do Not Call Registry and none of us have ever received a Telemarketer call. May its just luck, but I'm sold on the DNCR.
Now, if I could just get them to take my home number. |

It's, like, what, $900 fine if they call you 3 times and you are already on the list? It is in NC.
Seriously. I'm counting. Call me! _________________ Wild Willie Edwards

I've noticed that I've started getting sales calls on my cell, so I went ahead and registered it. _________________ We have nothing to fear but fear itself.

As has been posted, the "released to the public" part of this is a hoax.
While you CAN register your cell number with the DNCR, it doesn't do anything, as it has always been illegal to telemarket to mobile numbers. _________________ Lou Zucaro

Luo -
The DNCR does have value and what you state with regards to it being illegal for Telemarketers to call cell phones is partially true. Its is illegal for Telemarketers to use automatic dialers to call cell phones so that eliminates a majority of the Telemarketing companies. They can still use live calling to Cell Phones. |
