I use standard Luxo mic arms with the mounts screwed right into my adjustable height desk and never had a problem. However I do get a neat noise when I raise the desk while a mic's open.

Me too! Love that adjustable desk too.

The Q-mic is an incredible deal, I've installed several of them and the quality is good. If you need a wall mount bracket, check Guitar Center for the Luxo mount.

white or luxo arethe only way to go for a console mounted mic boom.

for floor stand booms a good heavy base atlas with a shock mount will do it.
if you buy an inexpensive tripod you usually have to put some kind of weight
on the legs to keep it from tipping over if you're using a large diaphram mic.

I look at it this way....I've got a four thousand dollar mic on the end of that boom so I want it rock solid.....Atlas studio boom

Ultimate is also a good hardy studio boom if you don't feel like spending the $ on an Atlas (both are good). Personally, the Manley is truly overkill, but I've never seen such a well built mic stand before.

That said, it's not something I spend a lot of time doing the research on...
