And since there is no comparison in writing to the sound of our hard 'g' sound with the 'ch' in Schiphol, I'd like to add to the confusion...

We sold Manhattan as soon as we found out you couldn't pronounce some of the Dutch language... that's why nowadays you have more competition than me. KIDDING!
No Diane... this was a 'dry voice'
... and the only way Schiphol Airport should be announced,,, if you're Dutch. BTW, it actually is called Schiphol Amsterdam Airport. And most of the times I hear that in English language documentaries or announced from cabin crew on an airplane, it sounds like SKIP-ALL AIRPORT... when we actually SHIP-ALL... (uhm forget it)

Thanks all!
Usually I can stumble across a video that has the word included, but no luck this time.
So it's AIR-port. Thanks. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

Oh DUH!
Please excuse Miss Liz as she tries to find her brain in the dark recesses of her mind!

BTW...I've been finding YouTube as a fairly good way of getting pronunciations if all other sources fail. If I hear the same pronunciation 3 times or more, or at least once from a trusted news source, I'm guessing it's a safe bet.

EDIT: Of course I write the above and then decide to go check out Schiphol on YouTube and all I got was groovy shots of planes flying into/out of/over the airport. No phlegm noises. Oh well. _________________ VO-BB Member #31 Enlisted June, 2005
