Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers… you know who you are… who dwell on this board, or in the hearts of those who do.

Just wanted to ask how your day went?

Hooray for all you Dads.

I remember about 15 years ago, asking my Dad about the direction my career seemed to be taking. I was just a DJ at a small radio station, doing little acting jobs here and there and getting rolling with the VO stuff. A lot of work, mainly learning and cobbling things together financially. It was wobbly to say the least, and I just didn't know if it was reasonable to hurtle forward thru time still figuring out how to figure things out.

Me: What if I get to be 50 and I'm still dubbing around?
Dad: Are you making enough money to pay your bills?
Me: Yeah.
Dad: Are you saving money?
Me: Yeah. . . .
Dad: Are you happy?

Wow. That's the conversation that led me to feel the freedom to choose the life I have— which is, by the way, grand.

Thanks, Dad.

my own dad...gone almost nine years now...didn't understand much about my chosen career, but (along with mom) supported it wholeheartedly as long as he could see i wanted it enough to keep working at it.

it is because of my dad (and mom) that i have my home studio. they financed it (including that first, very expensive, DAW), and encouraged it. my father helped build, wire and paint it, though i reside many states away from the old homestead.

when i tried to offer what feeble thanks i could over the years he would just say this was what he wanted to do...get me set up and running. he did the same with my brothers. there wouldn't be any grand inheritance at the reading of any will and testament in the future. he wanted to help in the present.

thoughout my life, there have been times when i had to stop and marvel at the realization that so many people i know do not/did not have supportive parents such as mine.

i usually try to wrap up my posts with something clever, but will stop here because i'm starting to mist up a little.

thanks, dad. you gave me a lot...and a lot to live up to.

I'm very grateful to still have my Dad (and Mom). In fact, he's still driving 18-wheelers between Minnesota, Utah and California every week. We talk pretty often and I always remind him how much I love him.

I love my Dad, and I'm glad he's around (He'd better not go anywhere We've got a lot of work to do together). He truly is a great person and a great Dad.

We have been feeling very fortunate indeed that our little one has all of his grandparents to give him lots o' love. Smile

My son just called me here at work a few minutes ago. He asked me if I wanted to join him at the dojo tomorrow evening for his karate class. They're having a father/son thing and we used to do that when he was younger. They used to have them on Saturday mornings, but now his class isn't held on Saturdays.

I suppose I should mention that he's 18, just graduated from high school (top 5% of his class of 288) and two weeks ago passed his 2nd degree black belt test.

Oh yeah, my daughter's pretty wonderful, too. When I left for work this morning she said she'd call me here tonight after the Celtics game and we could discuss it. She used to do that from college after the Patriots' games last Fall and we'd yap about the game. She's 20.

So, do you think I'm a proud papa or what? Smile

Just came back from post-church lunch - my treat. Their treat to me was being absolutely fabulously well behaved.
Made off with quite a haul of gifts made in school/Brownie troop: Popcorn bowl and soda cup decorated by #2, a coupon book good for hugs from #3, and an odometer for my bike from #1.
Also included from #1 was a horn for my bike. After thanking him, I told him I may return it, as it isn't really what a fella would want on a bike (he's 10, he understands that). What was funny was hearing #2 tell him that adults use the bells on their bikes. Got some needed socks, instead. Everyone happy.

Off to the park now. Have a great day, fellow dads.

I got my favorite coffee and donuts. Couldn't have asked for a better gift. Except for all the hugs and kisses I got as well. I'll take those over coffee. Maybe not the donuts, though.

Sarah got me a $50 Lowes gift certificate. I'm told I'm not allowed to use it for fixing up the house. But only allowed to use it for something I want, like my garden or a tool. Or if I want to hear Connie.

Just finished playing some xbox with the kids. Off the get propane for the obligatory dad's day BBQ. Going over the neighbors tonight to share in their pinball arcade and Father's Day cake.

Good family day.

Just talked to my dad... he starts radiation therapy for prostate cancer tomorrow and he seems pretty chipper. He's a Vet (Korea) and has 8 kids, 14 grandkids, and a loving wife...

I sent him a bag of decaf maple coffee from one of the local maple sugaring houses here... he loves the stuff!

Wife and kiddo took me out for steak & eggs, then to see Iron Man. Apart from a plot hole or two, a highly entertaining film.

(It also had the added benefit of showing this trailer. Check out the opening gag and see if you can name that non-DLF trailer voice.)

I lost my dad when I was 15. I was just looking through one of his many photo albums and found a picture of us together at a father/daughter dance. Such wonderful memories...

I also came across a photo nearly 30 years old of my grandpa doing rope tricks. He will be 93 this year. He told me that he's having a rough year with the cotton fields, but it's ok because last year was one of their best yet. He says they can't all be good crops Smile. Of course, he's still mad that the state of Texas took away his dricer's license this year. He said he has a lot of time to sit around and think now, fortunately it hasn't gotten him in trouble yet. He also said he's glad to have his grandchildren to think about.

Needless to say, I've just begun checking flights to Texas. I miss that man.

Took mine to a Phillies game today.

Got him onto the field for a ceremonial first pitch, lunch at the ballpark, etc.

Poor little guy fell asleep when we got home... he was all tuckered out.

/he's earned a nap
