|

http://blogs.voices.com/voxdaily/2008/06/buy_now_packages_for_voice_overs.html
Voices.com announced a new feature: The buy now package. This allows users to essentially post their rate cards. OK, fine. no haggling or trying to fit within a budget. Sounds good.
But the kicker is that when a client hires you for this, the Surepay system fees are now charged to you, whereas before they were added to the client's bill.
So now we pay for a membership to Voices.com and have to pay a commission. on each job that uses Surepay and Buy Now.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm just going to build this fee into my rates.
Discuss. _________________ Jeff

Cost of doing business being passed along to the client.
Businesses have been doing it for centuries.
You're a home business.
On the face of things, it seems that the dots all connect. This should be a no-brainer. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

Jeff,
I thought the comments were quite instructive (including yours) and I quite agree with Greg. Passing along the cost of doing business is the way business works. _________________ Be well,

Oh yeah, can I get a VO to do above liner? Can't pay, of course, but I'll give you the credit. Actually, I'm going to need chosen VO to pay a commission for doing above free liner, OK? |
All major credit cards are accepted here...

In defense of Voices.com, they've raised the rates they quoted by a big enough margin, that the fees are now incidental, to me anyway.
Stephanie is great about encouraging and working with the feedback she gets. _________________ Jeff

Seems like it Jeff.
And she seems willing to do her best to answer hard questions brought to her by the talent.
Frankly, I'd rather have this system than the "tagging" over at V123.
/and since Surepay is a form of escrow, I'd be willing to pay for it regardless. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

I'm ok with it now. My first post wasn't so in love. But since then, they've upped the recommended rates such that I'm OK with it now. _________________ Jeff

You all realize that Voices.com did that because of the gas prices, right? It costs us all more to push our comfy chairs around from one side of the studio to the other. _________________ Christopher G. French
