I mostly use firewire interfaces, but at school we use the Mbox at engineer stations and they work absolutely fine with Pro Tools.

hope this helps

Another one late to the party here - but I've been using M-Audio FastTrack Pro with good results, and a less than stellar but still does the job (read: affordable for a beginner) Behringer preamp. This is all good advice and good stuff to chew on as I'm in the market for upgrading a bit - primarily mics, so I'll switch to that thread. Gotta plug AA though -I use vs 2, and the learning curve is not as steep as I've heard on pro tools - very user friendly (well it seems to like me anyway Wink

If any of you have tried this, I would sure appreciate a review.

Thanks,

Haven't tried the Presonus, but I can reccomend the ART Tube SP USB pre-amp. Sounds plenty good for VO. You can use it as a regular pre without the USB connection if you like. Jeff Kafer uses it and likes it, also.

I'm not trying to be a smart-a$$, but FWIW the Mbox was designed to be used solely with Pro Tools.

/with ASIO drivers it'll work fine with most any other DAW out there

Thanks Bill,

I would try one in a heartbeat if it had a headphone out.

I'm not using a mixer, so the trs out would be going to the monitor amp and I wouldn't be able to monitor as I talk.

Do you use it with a mixer or distribution amp of some sort?

Craig

Craig -

Yes, I use it with a mixer, but I rarely use headphones.
It has a USB OUT and a line OUT, you can use both at the same time.

So, you could use the line out to feed a cheap headphone amp with no "delay",
and the USB to you computer.

One of the reasons I like the ART - I use an RE20, on occasion, and it has enough juice to run a dynamic mic.

After several years of just getting audio into the computer (very successfully) via an Edirol UA-1A, I just bought a Lexicon Alpha for $100. To be honest, I only bought the hardware to get the Cubase LE software. But having hooked everything up and playing with it for a bit, I'm sticking with it. Might be the best $100 I've spent on business gear in a while.
