Heather,
You're right. If you've used Avid, then using Pro Tools should not be a huge adjustment. My note of caution was only intended as a caution in case you didn't have much relevant experience. _________________ Be well,

I think you'll be fine then.
Personally I haven't had any issues using PT with XP.
In fact it's been more stable for me than running PT on OSX 10.5.
I find most PT issues on PC's is usually due to some kind of wonky hardware. Running a stock Dell, you should be fine.
I don't think the learning curve of PT is insurmountable, playing around with it for a while, and you should be able to figure out where all the basics are. Just be prepared to spend a little time with it.
If it's too much, you should still be able to use the MBox with Audacity or Sound Forge, or pretty much anything else.
I think the USB mic will be easier to get up and running, but I think with a minimum time investment, you'll probably get better results out of the Pro Tools kit over time. _________________ Hey! Whaddaya hear?

Quick thought from a noobie: if you use USB as your interface, ie MicMate, then you can use any mic. If you use a USB mic, you have to add other stuff to use other mics.
my head hurts...

No, you can run ProTools with a number of hardware interfaces. MBox is just one of (if not THE) cheapest. ProTools requires specific hardware, but there are options. |

Yoda117 is spot on. Studio Projects makes a great mic and the B-1 can faithfully reproduce anything you give it. It's funny how you can justify a new mic with the "It's only a tank full of gasoline" excuse. |

A couple more months and that "only a tank of gasoline" excuse will cover a U-87. _________________ Chris Rice - Noisemaker

I have a C-3 that I think is really excellent...a bit pricier than the B series but really nice. _________________ Lou Zucaro
