I own and use two CO3U Samson USB mics, mainly for remote recording
for training videos. They sound very good. Better than the CO1U.
Full bodied sound and not harsh. For $100 to get started, you can't go wrong. It helps to know your recording software processing functions to fine tune the VO texture.
Though I haven't tried the USB model, the AT2020 is a great starter mic.
Enjoy your adventure! _________________ www.asapaudio.com |

I own the Samson C01U and it works fine for me. I also have the Snowball,l which I think has a bit too bright a sound for my regular speaking voice. However, if somebody wants me to yell, scream, die, attack, etc., the Snowball can really handle that energy.

OK, I looked it up, and the Digidesign starter kit looks like it might be good to start with, pending I can get a little mileage out of the set up. just to get started. I know I can up-grade as I start to maybe, eventually, hopefully make a little money? Well, with a little marketing, and practice, that's the plan...I have soo much to learn |

Heather,
One note of caution I would sound is that with the Digidesign starter kit you'll be working with Pro Tools. Now understand, I'm writing this as someone who is very happy using Pro Tools, but it's a long, steep learning curve. You might be well to keep looking. Or, commit yourself to some rough sledding while you learn a program that is way overkill for voiceover. _________________ Be well,

Greg,
Not from me. But, then, I'm one of those weird types who actually looks up the approved systems on the Digi site before I buy. _________________ Be well,

I too am a Pro Tools user...on a beefy Mac (quad core Intel). Never had any problems from day one. I read the setup instructions and everything before setting up the Digi002. ROCK SOLID ever since. I cannot say the same for the Cubase and some of the other systems I used. If you are a PC user that is a recording novice....I would echo what Bob is saying here. Get something easier to work with and more compatible with PC's. You will be glad you did. I am sure some have had success with PT in the PC world...but I don't hear many of these success stories very often. More stories about people almost throwing their PT interface out the "window". _________________ Ben

Other than hating the proprietary nature of PT, no issues with it on a PC (but yes it is a buggy thing with PCs and older Macs).
Though if you want to play it safe, Pyramix is the way to go (fully PT compatible) _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

I'm very happily using Pro Tools on a PC. (I've also used in on Macs, at the office.) A Dell at the moment. Previously on a self-built system. No problems, as long as you choose your hardware carefully. Personally, I didn't have much trouble learning to use Pro Tools, but I've been using digital audio editing programs since 1991. For a novice, I think there are many tools available that have shorter and easier learning curves. _________________ Be well,

I know that this will come as a surprise to you Bob, but I'm one of those types who pushes the envelope with the tech that PT will support.
Still, nothing major that wasn't resolved in 10 minutes or less. On stock machines, never had a problem. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

Greg,
Yes, but I'm not in your league. From a tech standpoint, I'm not on the same planet. _________________ Be well,

First time I've ever been able to comment in this section. I'm probably the lest tech savvy person on this board. I started with Digidesign and found out after I got it that it was not compatabile with my Dell. I then went to M Audio Fast Track Pro and use Sound Forge Audio Studio. Then Uncle Bob Souer talked me through screen by screen setting it up. Also we had two other long training sessions. I can finally do the basics and I'm very happy with it.
The other thing people usually say about Pro Tools is that if your not going to be producing your own spots it's overkill.

Well people have often accused me not not quite being "from this planet", etc.
It's rarely been complimentary
You give me too much credit. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

Well, OK then...Hummm.
I have right now a laptop Inspiron 1520 running Intel duo core 2gb RAM. Now as far as the ProTools, if I can make it through AVID-the program for editing film, I might be able to pull together the other. But, I will look into all that has been said here. Just when I think I have a solid direction... |
