Pam and I were at a Pro Tools demo last night, and the Digidesign guys said they were anticipating maybe a late June final release that will work with Leopard. They said the last step is waiting for all the developers who make the third-party plug-ins and whatnot to catch up with them (or something like that -- Pam was paying better attention than I was). For whatever that's worth.
Ben's right: I do use the Apple wireless keyboard and mouse in the Whisper Room, and they work swimmingly. Normally I keep my PowerBook right up next to the Whisper Room, but I've also been able to control my iMac with the keyboard and mouse, and that's a good eight feet away from the Whisper Room, at least. |

Though not on a Mac, I use a Bluetooth KB and mouse in my whisper room, too. Works great! _________________ Lou Zucaro

Caryn,
I just recently switched to a Mac Mini for my DAW. With the Leopard OS, Boot Camp comes built in, so that you can run multiple OSes. I have a Windows XP partition on my mini and run my Adobe Audition there using my firewire interface. Quiet! I purchased mine used so it only came with 1gig of RAM, but that already is operating more seemlessly on that Mac Mini running WinXP than my other system with an Athlon 2600+ processor and 2Gigs of RAM.
This way I can still use my Windows licenses for my software, and perhaps transition over to Apple at a later time. I have the option. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

For the past 2 years I've run Pro Tools/Mbox on a MacBook (not MacBook Pro). The computer makes practically no noise. Every now and again the fan starts up, but it's only for a little bit, and only every 2-3 days. I highly recommend it.
Obviously this setup travels very easily.
By the way, I used Boot Camp (the beta version from 2006) to partition the drive and install Windows XP, and haven't had a lick of trouble. Boot Camp now comes as part of OS 10.5.x. I still do office applications in Windows (Quicken, Word, some financial software).

Are you sure Apple is no longer supporting the Mac Mini? It's still being sold in the Apple Store.
In addition to my MacBook/Mbox/ProTools travel kit, I use a Mac Mini/ProTools for day to day recordings at my home studio. If anything the Mini is quieter than the MacBook.

Jim,
The comment was about Digidesign, the makers of Pro Tools dropping Mac Mini support...not Apple. _________________ Be well,

Not only did I miss the comment Anthony made about Digi/Mac Mini, I cut and pasted it and still missed it. (Or is that cutted and pasted it?)
Sorry about that. I hadn't heard about Digi no longer supporting the Mini. Why would they have done that? The little thing runs great, perfect for those of us in small office/studios.
Thanks Bob,

oh yeah - it most definitely runs great (and was the setup I was going for when i moved home), but in short, when Digidesign no longer "supports" a certain platform or configuration, all it means is that they are no longer testing it with new releases... therefore, although chances are that FOR NOW you should be ok even with the VERY recent releases, if something doesn't work (plugin, crashes, freezes, etc.), you're up that famous creek.

I'd still be using Digi 001 with a G4 "Windtunnel" if I hadn't moved from a two room setup into a one-room. That's what precipitated the need to move to a Mini in the first place.
The Digi 001 was a great interface.

The Apple will probably be easier to digest than the Worm.

And when the Worm is done with the Apple, he can toss it in the Trash 80. |

Also used as an acronym for storage technology.
I nearly freaked out when I was reading about installing WORMs on the network of a previous company I worked for. Realized that they were using it differently than I was used to and apologized for my state of dumbfoundness which I had previously been in. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser
