I see an average noise floor level of -65 on the mp3.

Wow! Are you sure? We're talking an MCA SP1 into an MXL Mic Mate into a usb port on a very old pc in a small totally untreated, although carpeted, room. Was there any usb or a/d noise? Could you hear anything? (Hmmm ... maybe the thing didn't record)

I really appreciate your feedback. Cake's in the mail.

Well Rob, it would also depend on how high your levels would be if you
were speaking into the mic.

Give us a file with some normal vocal level, and then we can give you an accurate reading on your real nise floor.

Those SP1 mics are surprisingly good for the money. I have one.
You just have to buy a mic that gets really good reviews and costs 39.95!!

Wow! I'm with Mr. Campbell. That even surprised me.

As am I.

It's something I've said before, but in the last 10 years or so, the technology for recording has come an amazingly long ways.

OK, time to kickstart this old thread. Finally got some voice on to get a room check. This is the MCA SP1 into the Mic Mate. There is no processing or noise removal. How does the room sound? Any electrical or room noise? Ignore the birds, they have received the eviction notice.

Thanks, folks. This is one great place!
