i'm developing an online video product for a niche publishing company. their community magazines have chapters like:

welcome
education
health care
tourism
recreation
homes or real estate
government
culture
quality of life
entertainment

stuff like that ---- i need to include that type of information --- but i am the terminology is tired.

since this board hosts the most intelligent, creative & generous talents in the universe ... i thought i'd ask your opinion.

how would you say "health care", for example, without saying "health care" & etc.

live, learn, play are kinda buzzy words that have been over used as well ...

ok - whip out the brilliance!

Hey Todd!

How "conversational" can you get?

If you can have some fun:...and keep in mind...this is total stream of consciousness!

welcome = Come on in!
education = Brain food
health care = Feelin' groovy
tourism = Checkin'n out the sites
recreation = Gettin' out there!
homes or real estate = A roof over your head
government = Power brokers
culture = The art around you!
quality of life = Ain't life grand!
entertainment = Having Fun!

Like I said....stream of counsciousness...but maybe it'll spark some other ideas!

Liz

Rule #1: Know your audience.

Liz's ideas are groovy indeed, but make sure the audience (not just your client) will get it and like it. Sometimes groovy is groovy. Sometimes tired is groovy.

In addition to knowing the audience, remember that people shouldn't feel frustrated trying to find the info they're looking for, so just make sure that once rule #1 is taken care of, that your vocabulary is obvious enough.

A rose is a rose, but my Father's middle name is Etoyle.

Meaning "rose". I do not know what language, but somewhere I have a story about the origin.

So not to go too far off-topic, consider using another language to say the same thing... some languages are flowery and one can get the meaning without knowing the exact translation.

For instance: Today/Tomorrow may be translated to French as: aujourd'hui demain or to make it simple - aujourd'hui (pronounced- I think - Check with Liz -- Oh-zhor-dwe)

Toodles

definitely see what you're saying, lou. has to be creative without being so esoteric that the gen. pop. doesn't "get it".
