The Embarq installers are scheduled to arrive today to put in my ISDN lines.

My guess is, they'll show up and try to put in DSL lines....but I hope not.

I made this aHobo Tounget. with the only known Embarq office that handles ISDN... but it's in Florida!!

From what I've heard, it's hard to find a typical phone company installer who's even HEARD of ISDN, much less know what to do... but far be it from me to put a shadow over the next step to my dream of sacks of money on my front porch!

Updates later. Sheesh...that sounded like a news tease....sorry!

Good luck Courvo!!!!!

When the guy came out to install my lines (after three months/two cancellations on Embarq's part), he told me he and another fella are the only two in the region that know about ISDN.

I think that's a pretty high number of people... but then again, Fort Myers IS a hotbed for vo talent!! Smile

I actually had a thought to see if he would give me his cell number in case I had any issues b/c calling the Embarq office, even the ISDN office, is a PITA. I didn't. But, it's a thought!!! Be nice, offer him a sweet tea, lunch... whatever it takes!!! Smile

I had Dave Immer with Digifon set up my ISDN service with Embarq. Just got it up and running Tuesday. Everything went smoothly, we tested the line, and are ready to go!

One bit of bad news though, Courvo,....the sacks of money haven't started arriving yet.... Shocked

Good luck! Have some candy and baubles on hand to entice the guy into remembering what ISDN is.

I'm getting SERIOUS gear envy with all you guys going ISDN.

We'll see.....I'm in Kara's boat in that I'm not sure how long we're going to be in this house......

Uh, OK, it's already started.... here it is past noon on the West Coast, and still no word...not a peep from Embarq.

I call. I give my order number. A nice lady understands exactly what ISDN is and gets me to another nice lady who says there's been an "error" with my order.

I ask if I was responsible for the "error"...she tells me no, but doesn't explain further.

Bottom line, the install may or may not get done today, and you know how that goes on a busy Friday in a busy town.

S'all good....I'm asshole deep to a tall Indian in other things today anyway.

let's hope you have a smoother road than wendy did. even though you aren't dealing with at&t, she might have a direct phone number to a guy who could at least know the lingo, once you're past this first hurdle.

best of luck on this project, good sir.

this is exactly the reason why i pay ednet to deal w/ my isdn needs... worth every penny!
if you value your time, and i'm sure you do, i strongly suggest you look them up and order through them (or digifon like rob suggested) - forget dealing w/ the telco's directly.

I'm with ya, Anthony... I've already had a coupla conversations with Dave at DigiPhone, and he's my ace in the hole.

I dunno... I guess the geek in me enjoys the process. Yeah, I'm one of those guys.

Yoda? Lou? Help me out here!

You learn something in the process IF you don't shoot somebody first.

Dave, this kind of thing happened to me two or three times. Had the aHobo Tounget. set up, then they didn't show up. I'd call... and they'd give some roundabout answer.

But they did eventually get here. Just took 3 months.

Anthony, doesn't EDnet charge you a buck a minute for the ISDN's usage?
Or do you handle the bill yourself?

What'd I miss?! Sorry...super-busy day. In a good way Smile

I'm somewhat of an ignoramus when it comes to ISDN for V.O. work...I had ISDN before DSL or cable were available, but haven't had it since late '99 I think.

I'm not entirely sure it's still available here Frown

Yee-Haw....!! Am I havin' fun yet?

When we last left our intrepid Embarq ISDN wanna-be, he'd been stood up for his line-install on the Friday before a 3-day holiday weekend.

Our cowboy went back to work on the phones Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, working his way through many an automated menu system, and a bevy of syrupy Embarq operators, but found no results.

Finally, Thursday, he gets a guy who seems to really know what he's doing. He rids my record of the "computer error" that seems to be blocking my order -- he re-schedules the install for later in the day, and even promises a call-back to check on progress.

It is now 1:49am PST, Friday, May 30, 2008, and I'm still waiting for that Thursday install....and the call-back.

Back to the phones first thing in the morning.

Maybe it'll be a call to Dave at Digiphone
