Dear VO-BB Members,
I thought it might be of interest to provide some insight as to the origins of the Enhanced Audio M600.
The M600 has been designed primarily as a universal microphone mount. It is not a shockmount— its design reduces the transmission of infrasonic vibrations, vibrations below 20Hz.
The design for the M600 originated after I read a magazine article relating to vibrations and how they affect audio equipment and started to think about how a microphone is affected by these vibrations.
The M600 works by mounting the microphone within six minimum points of contact, the idea being that the body of the microphone and capsule remain stationary and the only thing moving is the soundwave, similar to a camera mounted on a tripod. On a tripod you get a clearer image due to reduced movement of the camera.
Another contributing factor which led to the design of the M600 is the design of conventional suspension mounts; it seems that there is a general dissatisfaction with the build quality, and particularly the durability of the rubber bands used to suspend the microphone.
As I tested the design, the primary objective was to compare the reproduced sound quality when the microphone was held in a suspension mount and then in the M600. With the M600’s minimum contact mounting, I found that the microphone exhibited an audibly tighter and extended bass response, cleaner treble and improved detail when compared with a suspension mount or clip mount.
Regarding the files posted here by Dave Courvoisier, whom I’d like to thank for his efforts:
It is interesting to note that even though some members here could not interpret specific differences in sound, most listeners preferred recordings made using the M600.
Why is it called the M600? Well the M stands for mount, 6 equals the 6 points of contact
and the two zeros represent the two rings of the M600.

First off, welcome!
Thank you for the insight into the design of the M600. It's always interesting to see the engineering principles behind the design.
Also I love the bit of trivia behind the name for the mount! Reminds me of the reason for the names of WD-40 or Preperation-H. Well, at least for the Olds 442. _________________ Try to imagine a world where there is no such thing as hypothetical situations.

Hmmm Interesting
I think it a cool universal mic mount, but would it be the best choice for someone that let's say having problems with noise being transferred through the mic stand, where a good shock mount would reduce that. It seems this would only enhance the problem.
As for the reduction of infrasonic vibrations (below 20 or 22 Hz) I won't discount the idea that it may boost the base response but in voice over I'm rolling everything off below 80 Hz anyway so I'm not pumping the compressor/limiter.
I'm just wondering what advantages it has to offer to someone in voice over, other then a cool mic mount?? _________________ The Blog:

Mike, hit gearslutz or search for some of Courvo's past postings for some clips and comments.
Personally, I want to see what they come up with next.

There are difference, my first impression was that it sounded like they ran it through an Aural Exciter. The clips demonstrated better presents, clearer more open upper end, more harmonics in the mid and lower end. Is it worth the 300+ bucks? Possibly.... maybe.... Yes.
What sold me is that it make sense to make any changes as close to the source as possible.
Crud...... One more thing to spend money on.
Maybe if I get motivated, I'll fire up the lathe and and the mill and make my own. _________________ The Blog:

Mike, where do you get your pricing from?
First $3000 for a $1500 leveling amp, and now $300+ for a product that sells for $269 (though most of us got them for $225)...?

In relation to your question, what advantages the M600 has to offer to someone in voice over, other then a cool mic mount??
Well as you say in your own words this is what the M600 has to offer, better presence, clearer more open upper end, more harmonics in the mid and lower end. I could not have said it better myself.
I really believe in improving the source, which is why I designed the M600.
