caryn made me laff.
i think the big difference in this case is (1) the vast majority of folks attending a ball game do not make a living from their voice/likeness and (b) what bruce said ... tact. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

How many times have you seen Jack Nicholson at at a Lakers game? Jessica Simpson at a Cowboys game? (Well, OK only once. bad example.) |

not saying famous people don't go to sporting events ... just that in any given arena at an average game they probably don't comprise the majority of the attendees. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

True. However, the cameras do find them and any other freak in a rainbow wig. .gif" alt="W00T" border="0" /> My point is: the less a spectacle you make of yourself, the more harmless the clause becomes. Also, that we deal with this very frequently in our lives. |

You know, at Disney, you actually have to give your thumbprint when you walk thru the entry gate. Talk about Big Brother. Ok, off topic... Dan's amusement park example made me think of that.
Kara, I'm a raffle ho... I love me a raffle!!! So, I appreciate you pointing out to make sure to put my tickets in the prize bucket... I would be seriously bumming if I missed out on a raffle drawing for a prize. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

Er, frankly, have you listened to the recordings from last year? Not exactly broadcast quality. Same goes for the video and still shots - not that the people behind the cameras weren't pros - but it was a fairly standard conference room in a so-so casino in Vegas. Fluorescent lights, scary carpet and all. And, of course, no makeup or wardrobe. If you seriously think you might be missing out on some money from your voice or likeness....well, I'm not so sure.
And I kinda doubt their sales of the cd's were chart-topping. |

a vo colleague directed me to this promotional video for and about rodney saulsberry, a presenter at voice 2007. note that there are familiar faces (youssef--where are you ??!) and a certain voice of hotness.
said colleague asked whether i'd signed a release and/or given permission for my likeness and ground-breaking (!!) comments to be used for rodney's promotional purposes.
i'd never given it a thought. it's all good. i did sign something after being interviewed following my impromptu coaching during rodney's sesh, and he may have lifted that from the voice2007 cd and/or had rights to it. i don't know.
nonetheless, the tact, or lack thereof, in that voice2008 disclaimer rubbed me wrong. kinda like what we hear in utah a lot: if you don't like it, leave.
here's the link
edit, saturday may 3: video removed by "user"
(i s'pose i could rick roll here ...!) _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

Actually Diane, we hear more of this phrase with certain events and locations: "If you don't like it, leave your money; then leave".

Jeff, you're talking to a Floridian. They think Disney World is the ONLY Disney park in the US...
Come to think of it, so do most New Englanders I've met so fah... _________________ Greg Littlefield

ya know ... now that i think about it, i could ask rodney to put a small subtitle in there, not that underscores my brilliant comments but that shows my name and website. heh. _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

There's another "world?"
Ahh... right... but it's just a "land."
Kara, I'll get right on that new keyboard thing. I was really being serious... my friends tease me. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

Just to throw my two cents in.....
I guess I have an issue with the last sentence of the disclaimer. It's a rather callous way to say that 'we're going to use your likeness, forever, without paying you, if we want to'. As a professional actor, my business, my inventory, is my likeness and my voice. I have no problem promoting the event. I certainly enjoyed attending last year in Las Vegas. But, I can not tell you how many times I've been exploited by producers who used my voice beyond the intended usage. That's why there are unions I guess.
I'll get off my soap box now. _________________ T. David Rutherford
