I am thinking of buying one for my mic interface but am not sure of the quality. Looks like it has a similar function as the m-audio interface. _________________ Does life start at 40? |

Looking to get a simple new interface myself, and was actually looking at the Lexicon Lambda (at the suggestion of the sales guy.)
You're planning on using it as your actual Mic pre-amp, or do you have a separate device for that? I have a DBX that I use for my mic pre, so I'm only looking for a way to get the audio from my DBX to my PC, and I've found most of the USB devices seem to have very few differences. If anybody has a glowing recommendation though, I'd love to hear.
If you're going to use this as you mic pre, I think the Lexicon products use DBX technology, which is okay, and I'd imagine the quality of the Alpha should be decent at the least. I think the Tapco uses Mackie pre's. Not sure about the Fast Track Pro, but the newer Fast Track Ultra uses the "Octane" pre's which are supposed to be very good.
Check Musician's Friend for quite a few reviews on the various devices.
PS: The only thing w/the Alpha is I don't think it has phantom power. |

I have a Shure SM7 so I don't need phantom power...I suppose it would be a good idea to have a unit with phantom power just in case... I may look into an Alesis 8 USB or I may just go with my first instinct of an M-Audio fast track with the phantom power...decisions decisions...
I currently dont have a preamp...not sure what will work best with what yet...I have the equipment on the ends tho...mic and cool edit...I need to fill in the spaces between, except for the pc of course.
I think I may go with some kind of mixer for acute level control of my mic to a mic interface like the lexicon or m-audio then into the pc...I want to use an A/D interface to bypass the generic soundcard in my pc and avoid the hum and noise. _________________ Does life start at 40? |

Wow...nice unit...only thing is better volume control, but I guess you could add a board for more level control.
That would definately remove a lot of clutter from the workstation. Something to ponder...great, more decisions... _________________ Does life start at 40? |
