and if you go through e-bates's referral site to newegg you get a 1% rebate. Doesn't seem like much, but every little bit helps (and you get a $5.00 rebate just for joining; if you use the e-mail of the person who refers you, they also get $5.00... again, every $ saved helps). _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

So I ended up going cheap. I got a $40 Belkin wireless G router. Works great and now I get full signal upstairs in the booth.
I went this route because I spoke with my neighbor, a netowkr security analyst and he said that going anything faster than G is pointless since my PC cards and wireless adapters are only G. _________________ Jeff

Kayfer, the router I borrowed from my neighbor is that same Belkin. it's tiny, affordable, and it has great range for the buck - this one's in the West end of my basement and i get signal all the way in the East wing (aka rear bedroom/studio). I just prefer the D-link interface.
I don't know if it's something i'm doing wrong, but even after assigning an admin password to the Belkin, it still shows some basic network info when you go to the IP (192.168.2.1 default) and only asks for the password if you want to change something... the D-Link asks for the password before showing you ANYTHING (192.168.0.1 default i believe).
The only thing I don't like about the D-Link is that it didn't give me an option to do a RANGE of ports when port forwarding (I have to do one port at a time)... maybe that's changed - we'll see when i get the 625 soon.
PEACE.

got my D-Link DIR-625 today... i almost hugged the UPS man.
this baby is hot... the interface has obviously been upgraded since the 614+ but I was able to find all I need in terms of customizing my setup.
Also, they're FINALLY calling port forwarding "port forwarding" so that made THAT easy to find (I need that for my FTP/HTTP/client-login server).
In any case - muchas gracias to Gregory "Yoda" Houser for the ebates hook up. Got it for $71.99 minus a 1% rebate... versus the $99+tax that Best B u y wanted.
'Nite my peeps.
PEACE.

np bob.
btw - it came w/ a "setup" CD - i guess this is to make it easy for the technically-challenged... i didn't trust whatever it was going to "set up" for me, so like any router, i just looked up the default ip and went to work on customizing my settings and network.

That's ALWAYS the best way to do it Anthony. I never use any setup CD like that. |

de nada Anthony
you'll have some fun with this thing, and it's pretty configurable. Especially if you replace the kernel with some of the modded ones out there. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser
