On the 26th April the great gathering takes place "Vox 2008". Meet friends and business contacts, for the newbies hopefully find some work. All this takes place at the Hinckley Island Hotel. The entire event is very radiocentric - radio commercial producers and a number of voices who spent the majority of their time hopping from one ISDN session to the next.

Needless to say a number of the producers need not buy a drink all day or night.

2008 so far, I've voiced 12 local/regional radio commercials .... I wonder how many free drinks producers will be getting from me?

To put the above figure into context, yesterday I voiced 12 TV promo's. Anyone here doing radio ad's by the bath full? Some of my friends at Vox are doing between 20-30 per day.

In March-April of 2007 I voiced 27 radio commercials.

In March-current date 2008 I've voiced 8.

Not sure it means anything- but it is interesting to look at the books and see the stats!

Fortunately, this year has brought many new clients, however only one of them was for a regional radio. I heard a local producer mention that there haven't been many radio spots coming in this year.

Had one client (agency) tell me they've "had a lot of tire-kickers" this year...lots looking, few buying.

Hey, this is a good exercise. i thought this year was off to a scary start, but here's the comparison, March 1- April 18, 2007, versus the same period this year:
2007: 89 radio, 12 tv.
2008: 72 radio, 13 tv.
Relatively consistent.

My CBS job can give me boatload days, bit it's a staff position so I'm paid by the hour, not per piece.

Meh!

Donna, I just went and checked out TV for the same time period for me.

March-April 18th:
8 in 2007
5 in 2008

(only counting commercials, not series or shows voiced)

So, not as drastic a decline for TV as it is with radio. Interesting!

Last month I voiced 78 radios - and a lot of them from producers who will be at Vox this year. I'm not going though, wish I was, but it's just as well because I think my bar bill (or "legitimate business expense" as I like to call it) may well bankrupt me!

I consider it my duty to take with me a large bag of Wine Gums and hand them out on your behalf.

Terribly kind, thank you. Although don't forget for each producer you may have to give 1 or 2 extra wine gums - "for safety".

I like this belt and braces approach to getting producers drunk.

In March I did 142 radio ads.....or maybe it was just 1 ad 142 times. Wink

So the old patent Monteath underwear will be on sale.

"Never miss a call from a local radio commercial producer with an urgent fax n dial ISDN piece of commercial copy to voiceisize - Bathroom breaks are a thing of the past with Monteaths Miracle incontinence underwear - You'll never say these words again I MISSED A JOB BECAUSE I NEEDED TO PEE"

Please state size, sex and how well your booth is ventilated when ordering.
