..that thought occured to me too.
Plus, there's always the danger of dropping one of them when putting them away in the box, or in the case of my Senn 416, jarring the mechanism inside when removing it from the mic clip, which is one of those rubberized plastic things that you sort of pop the mic into and out of... |

I hope you got one of these to hold your 416. If not, you are probably picking up a lot of extra LF noise via vibrations etc.

Ugh... another thing to buy?
I don't have a shock mount.
And, I don't put my mic to bed. Guess I should though. I don't think I would clip/unclip it everyday... or take it off the mic stand though. Like some of you have said, I think plugging/unplugging, in my non-expert opinion, can be bad for it. _________________ Caryn Clark... The Hip Chick Voice!

Agreed. And if you get dust in the capsule or ribbon or whatever, just take some compressed air....

Jeez, I never thought for a minute to take it down. Good thing I don't have a Neumann. (But I guess if I did...I would.) |

I just leave my mic in the shockmount with an old Carhartt t-shirt thrown over it. I know I'd end up doing more damage if I tried to take it down and store it every night. |

I've got a pair for 416 and other shotgun mic applications. They work just fine on a boom or traditional studio stand. VERY good at isolation compared to a lot of the stuff using "scrunci" style elastic supports. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

I'm with DB- I use my mic almost daily, and don't mess with the positioning of it and/or connections hassle. The capsule is already covered with a spongey pop filter- and then I close up the booth each evening, after covering my keyboard and mixer. _________________ Bobbin Beam
