Great photo's too 'Johnnie.
Man those turntables bring back memories. You could double clutch 'em shifting from 45 to 33!
Phone lights, cool board, lotsa sound tiles...but what's that circular thing with the holes in it on your phone!?!?!
The first public station I worked at had a couple of 77dx's too. Way cool!

Hey all ye "ole" radio folk. Just think of the production and air work done with the old RCA 77. Once, the engineer replaced the RCA "ribbon" with an aluminum strip from a pack of cigarettes. (Not an endorsement of smoking) Saw it with my own eyes.
I worked afternoons at a Top 40 station in college. This picture was taken through a plate glass window in the lobby. The whole wall was glass. To get to the console you'd walk behind the carts and around to the console. The general manager used to love to walk into the control room and stand behind the carts...break...um...pass...ummmm...well you know...and leave the room laughing. There you are stuck behind a picture window turning green. I loved those days. lol |

THAT made me laugh! I actually went back to the pic to see WHAT you were talking about!...we had one of those heavy black phones when I was growing up that weighed about 5 pounds...and my parents RENTED it from the phone company!

Man, what flashbacks! Last station I was on had the studio mic screwed on the end of a piece of galvanized pipe. The turntables were like your pics; no remote starts, and when you started one the whomp! from the idler would peg the VUs if you forgot to kill the pots beforehand. lol ! |

i just looked - super clean, beautiful mic - but shouldn't there ne silk (or something) under the grill?
and that IS a question - not a defamation of any kind. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

Normally, yes there would be.
I was actually going to call Enak to get some info on this particular item... I'm sure something as unusual as the seller is claiming it to be would be somewhat remembered (I remember and have used a V-1, and a V-2, but never heard of a V-15). _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

greg - i talked to clarence this morning. he remembers the mic. he cleaned it up and installed a new transformer. didn't mention a ribbon, and i forgot to ask.
i asked him about the model # v-15 - he said it was pretty old - from the 30's.
and - no material under the windscreen was factory. i still think i'd put something under there, though.
that is if i had more money to blow on another vintage mic.
which i don't. _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis

I e-mailed him about the mic last night... guess we think alike, lol.
Any comments about usefulness in VO applications? The other velocity ribbons from EV were all right for their time, but aren't what I would use (didn't really rate compared to most other ribbons that available, clips available on coultant were really bad compared to the RCA mics IMO). _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

Not good either. Dented grill.
It's damn near impossible to find replacements for that mic.
I've got someone looking around for one in excellent shape (but at a fair price).
Right now, I'm snagging another Trakker and Lil' FrEQ... and trying to find a graphic designer for the website. _________________ Voiceovers by Gregory Houser

ok --- it's back ... it looks great - much better than the picture indicates. as for the sound --- well - there is DEFINITELY much more gain. sounds a bit muddy to me - no processing at all - and just the built-in pre in my mackie 1202VLZ. one of these days i'll get a nice vintage tube pre for it. i actually had a guy tell me today that he pulled the pre out of an old ampex RTR and rack mounted it ... sounds like a neat idea ... of course, suggestions (on whatever) are welcome.

in the 1st example that is all the gain i had - i thought about cranking it up in AA - but as for a true test --- that's what the mic sounded like before ... _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis
