This might be a good thing to take to one of the VO-BB get together's everyone's been discussing. I'm game for a NYC outing if someone wants to sponsor a place to hang a mic.

About 10 hours ago, I picked up my evaluation copy of the M600. By the end of the weekend, I hope to have a few comments about it for anyone who cares to visit again.

For those still interested.... I've finished my evaluation of the M600.

This is one handsome and finely-tooled piece of equipment. Anyone would want to have it in their audio chain.

Obviously someone has taken great pains to design and manufacture this thing (Yeah! Enhanced Audio in Ireland).

As to whether it actually improves the signal into your DAW is something I'm going to leave to the audiophiles. Personally, I couldn't tell the difference to my ear.

This is not the full write-up. I give it considerably more time on my blog, and because I'm a slacker, I'm going to refer you there for the full monty.

Hey Dave, maybe you could put some of your recordings on the blog for the rest of us to hear... let folks check it out for themselves Wink

BTW: there's also some good talk on gearslutz relating to the M600. For a brief time it was a hot topic there.

Oh, here's something a bit important for some of us. The M600 can accomidate most mics up to the size of a U47. Anything larger though, and it won't fit in the shockmount.

Here are two short recordings using the two different mounts. The recordings are plain-jane. No compression/limiting or processing for noise reduction. I used a single-tube pre-amp on my AKG C3000B.

I don't care who is using it, or what it "sounds" like, if indeed, it makes any difference at all over a plastic and elastic $30 shockmount, which I seriously doubt.

It is... hideous.

I'm guessing that the people who have spoken up for the M600 wouldn't do it just because they have nothing better to do with their time. As a self confessed technical moron I am more than willing to be guided by some of the best recording engineers in the world, I'm stupid but I'm not THAT stupid! Also, something that looks vaguely industrial in my wee huttie will help me kid myself that I actually work for a living. I may sprinkle coal dust and pespiration on one to help reinforce my delusion.

Yeah, we had this debate on gearslutz a while back, and ran into the same problem. Not quite sure whether the folks testing the M600 ever decided to do a formal test.

Ironically, we preferred the use of the M600 then as well, but again, too many variables were un-accounted for.
