|
|
I'm test driving Sound Forge 9.0 - so far I'm loving it save for one issue. I can not figure out how to "save a selection" separately from the entire sound file I'm editing. For years I've used Adobe 1.5 and I "save selected" my way to a happy and productive VO living. Keep in mind, technically I'm on par with the Rain Man...so any help will be much appreciated!

I don't know specifically since I don't use SF, but in theory, you could copy your selection to a new file and save that. _________________ Jeff

Moe,
Highlight your selection. Control-C to copy the selection to the clipboard. Control-E to create a new file containing only what's on the clipboard. Control-S to save.
I hope that helps. _________________ Be well,

Moe
I have been using SF for a long while and 9.0 is a good platform
With your RAW file opened, open an empty wave file with the same configuration. If the RAW file is mono then open an empty mono envelope. Make sure the empty envelope is also the same sample and bit rate. Save the empty file.
Then highlight the portion of the raw file you want to save. Drag that file to the empty envelope. You can build up a with several clips. I hope this helps

I guess Adobe made me lazy...that's a lot of steps (specially when you think about gazillion prompt phone messaging - or mega narrations that want individual sound files per page) ...Thanks for the step by step guys- I shall give it the ole college try....this will be the deciding factor between Adobe and SF.
I'll let ya know how it goes!
thanks! _________________ Moe Egan

I haven't used SF 9 but I DO use SF8. You can highlight the selection and then just drag and drop it to the background. It'll open in another file - then you can just CTRL-S to save.
As far as separating out multiple files, that's the reason I got SF in the first place. You can record all of your files in one long file creating regions on the fly as you go. Then you can rename them quickly by going down the region list and once you've done that go to 'separate regions', designate a folder for them and the program separates them all into individual files. I've done this with thousands of prompts. I usually do them in groups of 100 (10-15 second) prompts.
Again, this is SF 8, but I can't imagine them doing away with these features in an upgrade. |

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for the great EASY TO UNDERSTAND tips.
It's working, it's working! It'll take me a smidge to get up to cruising speed while editing, but this is working! Man, I LOVE this place!
Someone also recommended Vox Studio in a PM.....gonna see if they have a trial I can test drive too. _________________ Moe Egan

I'd like to try Vox Studio also, I keep hearing about it. But my problem is getting the files in the format that's needed. I don't know that there's a way to quickly convert, say, a large excel spreadsheet into the Vox Studio format.
also - SF has a batch converter. You can set it up to do a number of functions at once on a number of files. |

I'm a SF user too...been using it since 1999. Love it.
BUT, do I feel stupid today. I decided to upgrade my SF Audio Studio 8 to the 9 version last night. I paid and downloaded the latest. Silly me didn't bother to read the System Requirements. I'm using Win 2000 Pro (solid as a rock) and when I start the install, BOOM! This product does not support Windows 2000. It's XP and Vista only. So I just spent the upgrade price ($24.95) on something I can't use.
Well, I was planning on upgrading to XP Pro later this year and adding some new hardware. Guess I'll wait until then to try SF Audio Studio 9.

Thanks Kafer! I'll be speeding up the upgrade. Hopefully I'll get what I need in the next few weeks and start the process.
I am hesistant though...when I have something that is as solid as my current set-up...I don't like to mess with it. I've seen too many upgrades go down in flames and take forever to iron out. I'll just keep my current system drive and put a new one in and load it with the OS and programs and make sure it's stable before I blow away the old drive and use it for extra storage.
Sound like a plan?

Well....I thought it would be a good time to go ahead and upgrade my OS. Seeing how Vista is the new problem and XP works fine and is stable. Also, I bought a new printer just after the first of the year and come to find out, it didn't support Win2K either. I use it on the laptop when I need it (laptop has X . I have a plain-jane printer on this system for text printing.
New printer is a nice Kodak all-in-one unit (printer, copier, fax, scanner, card reader, etc.).
Seemed only natural to get the latest audio editor that I like
Sorry for the 'jack.
