|

Hi everyone,
Last week there was a hideous windstorm in Dallas/Fort Worth. The wind hit 50 miles an hour and in many places knocked out power for people in homes. I was one of those folks.
Before the outage my equipment worked great, even after I relocated my room to a different part of the house. But after the power went off and shortly came back on, a series of problems followed.
A computer expert and fortunately for me, a friend of the family, helped to clean up files and get my CPU running properly. But he's not a recording expert and therefore only knew how to plug in my PreSonus.
For anyone that uses or has used PreSonus INSPIRE 1394, the light on the box blinks red then blue and vice versa, or stays red. I know this means it's not insync with my computer. I tried installing the software again but my computer advises against it for Windows testing problems.
Now when I record my microphone only picks up static and not my voice.
I'm poor at read and using instructions in booklets though I hold onto all materials from boxes.
So, despite my super long post here, can anyone advise or assist my problem?
Take care!

The soundcard that I use had the non windows signature too. From what I understand it means that microsoft has not tested the product for complete compatibility. The install instructions said to go ahead and click ok anyway. I did and so far I have not had any problems. I think you'll be fine reinstalling it. |

Also, if you haven't done so already, disconnect each cable in your audio setup...so disconnect the Inspire from the computer, disconnect it from the power (if it's plugged in), disconnect the mic, etc.
Make sure it all gets disconnected, then re-connect it all.
Even if you've disconnected some of the elements, do it again and make sure you get them all.
Computers are funny about electrical issues and sometimes it helps to "break the electrical chain" between items to let them clear their electronic heads, so to speak.
(there are actually technical reasons for doing this...I'm just oversimplifying) _________________ Lou Zucaro

Mary,
I have an Inspire as well.
Mine does exactly what you describe if the firewire isn't plugged into the computer or the connection isn't great. I had one FW cable that was a bit more sensitive to being bumped, so I bought a new one which stays connected much better.
It also sometimes seems to be sensitive to the order in which I fire things up. For example if I already Audition running when I plug in the Inspire it won't recognize it. If I plug in the Inspire before starting Audition it picks it up.

Thanks so much to those who took time to respond.
Something weird happened this morning. The light on my PreSonus is blue now and is staying blue.
BUT... when I record, it's still just static and not my voice.
I record with Soundforge. And when I click record, you know those vertical lines that pulse green when noise comes through? Well, they are not moving and I don't understand what the problem is or how to fix it.
So, can you guys help me out a but more??
Thanks again!

When you open the Inspire window are you getting normal activity there?
Sorry, I'm not familiar with Soundforge.

Hi Craig,
When say Inspire window do you mean the Inspire Control Panel? That works, now. Last night it said no data, or something like that.
I guess everything had to get connected properly overnight.
I don't know what to fiddle with though. When I bought my materials I hired a guy from Guitar Center to show me what to do. But that was 2 years ago. Never had any problems till now.

Yes, the control panel.
When it's not connected the screen is grayed out and says 'No Device'
If it is working, do you see your mic levels respond when you talk? _________________ Craig Park

Hi Craig,
Last night it said no device, but it works now. However the mic controls are blank. Even with my TV on. When I speak close to the mic only the #1 control works and the speak out controls. Nothing else works.
My sample rate: 44.1 Khz
Latency: 10.0 ms
I don't know what else there is to change or work with. I'm thinking of calling Guitar Center just in case but I'd hate to pay some guy $80 an hour if the problem can be fixed without additional help.

Mary, make sure the 'mixer bypass' switch is not pushed (next to slider #4) and you are using phantom power if you have a condensor and the gain is turned up.
I'll send you a pm _________________ Craig Park
