Kara,

There are a number of reasons for this:

1) The recipient's e-mail server has a very, very low limit on the allowed size of incoming attachments

2) There just happened to be a chunk of data in your MP3 file that was the same as a "signature" that the receiving mail server's anti-virus or anti-spam filters matched - this is very rare, but not impossible. ZIPping the file as suggested earlier in this thread could help with this.

3) If you're sending from a Mac, it's possible that your mail program (especially if it's had a version upgrade recently or some kind of patch) is encoding the attachments with a Mac-specific encoding method that the receiving mail servers don't like - I've seen this happen a number of times in the past

4) If you're sending to Yahoo / SBC / AT&T then it's possible that they have arbitrarily blocked your mail server from being able to send to their mail servers temporarily...this is a huge issue with Yahoo / SBC / AT&T because unless the sender (you in this case) tells the recipient that you got a bounce message, the Yahoo / SBC / AT&T users don't even know it's happening. Nobody knows why Yahoo etc. do this...they claim it's part of their anti-spam policy, but will offer zero evidence as to why they've blocked the sending server in the first place

5) If you use Norton Anti-Virus, try turning off EVERY component of NAV, tell it to stay off until you manually turn it back on, then reboot your computer and try sending again. NAV is notorious for blocking or corrupting outgoing mail under certain circumstances.

If you have webmail access for your karaedwardsvo.com mail server, try logging into that and sending from there rather than from an e-mail program on your computer and see if you have better luck that way. If so, it's likely something specific to your computer...some piece of software that's either blocking or corrupting data as it's being sent out.

Lou

You guys are so smart! I'll be consulting this thread again if I have more e-mail issues.

I tried to explain to my meteorologist husband what the assistant said about the planets and stars. He assured me there was no strange planetary allignments this week. I then assured him that she fully believed there were issues somewhere in the heavens- and I believed HER! Bitchin

Kara,

In spite of the other ISDN and sundry connection issues, I can say that our Bible podcast recording session (ISDN between Charlotte and Nashville) went without a hitch today. Smile

Dagummit!!!!

Well, my Hotmail account is completely down today...and I was waiting on an important e-mail. Then, my main e-mail won't let me respond to anything, it keeps giving me a 'timed out' error. I am trying to respond to an e-mail from a potential client asking about my services, and I am about to scream!

Lou, I tried your suggestions and still nothing. I tried restarting our wireless internet, nothing helped. I also spoke to a few friends around the area and they are also having e-mail issues this week. What in the world?

I am seriously buying into this whole voodoo astrology stuff. Good news is, the VO-BB is working just fine!

i guess at the very worst, you could pm one of your trusted friends here at vo-bb and have that person forward your message to your potential client.

missing emails is bad enough...missing a gig would really add insult.

I'd seriously consider telling the folks who host your email services if you're having problems sending email. You could probably try changing your SMTP server in your email program to the ip address associated with the server on which you're hosted. Sometimes, there can be DNS issues that cause connection timeouts.

Since it is 2 different e-mails with the isssue, I'm wondering if it is a internet service provider issue? I've been hitting redial for the last hour trying to reach someone- but keep getting a busy signal. Then I tried a live chat and Internet Explorer shut down. Awesome. Why is this site working great, and others don't? My computer says my wireless signal is connected and strong. Ugh.

I may have to get someone to respond to the e-mail for me- but I want this issue squared away- I have a busy week next week!

Well, it took all morning, but I got some answers. Internet is experiencing issues in my area and the service is slower than usual (has been for 2 weeks, so it ain't the stars afterall!). My provider also said that certain areas can not access any Microsoft sites right now (which would be Hotmail). He said he hoped it would be solved by tomorrow. Squirrel Mail won't work because it keeps timing out.

I found one of my friends with no internet issues nearby- and the dog and I are headed over to answer some e-mail.

Sheesh.

Who's your provider? They are the ones having the issues -- they're blaming the Internet is like blaming water for a dam clogging up.

I've been wondering if this whole mess in the middle east with the cable cuts isn't somehow putting more pressure on the backbones...

I'm gonna have to agree with ccpetersen on this one...what your ISP is telling you makes almost no sense whatsoever.

Kara, I'll PM you with something else in a sec...
