They work great until the first time your dog gets up the nerve to make it across.
I'm old fashioned and build a fence every time I move into a new house.

i had one like that too ... this one is different ... the transmitter sends a signal disabling the collar INSIDE the "safe zone" - and issues the correction at any point OUTSIDE the radius, not just a band x yards wide then nothing.

completely different that the one i put in at my other house ... that's why i'n interested if anyone has ever used this particular model.

Brett,
Jack up the voltage. I recommend a charging circuit using 1 Farad capacitors normally used in car audio sound systems.

Todd,
One of my co-workers here in the cube farm uses a similar system. It works out well for him and his dogs out in the farm lands surrounding Charlotte. Just be sure to keep your eye on the batteries built into the collar device. They will run down over time and suddenly the dog will find he can go anywhere w/o being annoyed! He had a funny story about that.

What happens if there's a power outage and the disabling signal suddenly stops? Ow. And I guess you have to take it off every time you take them somewhere in the car, or they'll learn to really HATE car rides. Ow.

Todd,

We bought a similar model a few months ago, and it works great. The dog HATES the sensation she got the first few times she tried to cross. Now, even without the collar she stays put...MOST of the time. She has sneaked out once or twice, but after a couple of weeks she learned to stay in the yard.

Small dog, btw.
