I'm going in on Monday for my first Book On Tape audition. I haven't seen the material yet (they were supposed to email it to me Wednesday) but will probably get it today.

Do you have any tips?

Derek,

Relax as best you can under the circumstances, and just tell the story.

What Bob said.

Another spin on that is something Philip mentioned when I was asking about help with an audiobook I'm just now finishing up.
Don't forget who your audience is. Keep that image in your mind and tell them the story.

An acting exercise you can try is to read over a couple of pages yourself. then ask a friend, mate (someone) if you can tell them the story? First time through tell them the story in your own words. Second time through read the words written.

Before the session drop back into that experience and see if it helps.

Good Luck!!!

Congrats Derek!!!

Cool news (and nice to see ya on the board my friend!). Best I can do is to offer up some advice from Pat Fraley - just happened to be listening to his podcast yesterday on of all things Audio books. So says Pat: Don't ever loose sight of the author's intentions. Let that dictate your read.

Yes, be aware of your audience and remember you're reading to just one person.

Thanks everyone! Great advice, especially about reading to just one person.

Another tip...listen to Pat Fraley's mp3 attached to his recent post in the "Learn" section of this board, and you'll get a good lesson/example on voice acting for audio books.

Keep in mind the narrator is a character in the story, also. Try to establish his or her point of view.
