VO-BB - 20 YEARS OLD!

I have to say I'm a little disappointed. I was hoping I could nominate myself for best new voice (A long shot, I know), but for some reason, they have an age limit of 30 years old! I can't be a little older and still be new?

I too am really confused as to why they put an age limit on the categories. It seems odd to me to have the categories like that - child, teen, etc. and that you have to fall within those specific age limits. I'm 36, but I'm not a 36-40 year old voice. I'm teen and twenties.

To add to the insult, the best male/female are for those in the biz 3+ years. So basically, they've locked out anyone over the age of 30 with less than 3 years experience from being nominated for any award.

But it's really cool that most of the people who were nominated and those who won as well, are so active in the community. I haven't met many in the industry who have big egos and no time for newcomers and THAT is wonderful! Good luck everyone!!

I'm guessing maybe they've parsed it out like that is b/c they had so many nominations fall into certain categories, and not enough in others. So maybe this is a way to even it out?

Agreed, Ember. I was completely honored (and stunned, frankly) to be a finalist in two categories last year, and really, that's how I befriended Kara. If it weren't for the Voiceys, we may never have chatted. Smile

Evidently your voice has been heard. They answered your comment in the Nomination Criteria that "older applicants will also be considered".

yeah I saw that. Curiously, the description still remains, pointing out the age limit. Just nuke the age limit already!

I wouldn't mind seeing some other categories too. Like Most Improved, Person Who Gives Back to the Community. Or maybe specific commercials or other spots recognized.

I agree, September. Considering this whole thing is really just a marketing strategy for Voices.com, there's no reason why they couldn't expand the awards.
