I am not related to RealTraps nor to its owner, but Ethan Winer (founder of RealTraps) is an invaluable source of knowledge in the acoustics department. Besides that, he's an excellent Cello player (is that the right English word for a big standing violin?) it is in my language (Dutch)... Wink

Thanks for the testimonial, Edo! Maybe I should contact Ethan with some hard-hitting questions?

As far as wooden floors go... you'll find them in just about every professional recording studio. It's part of what a 'live room' should sound like. Walls and ceilings obviously are always treated surfaces.

I've seen them in instrument-recording rooms, but never in a VO booth. Maybe I've just been sheltered in my studio experience?

Edo,

Yes. Cello is the correct word in English, too.

Well, why don't you? He'll probably be more than happy to answer them. I visit a GREAT forum often, which is a humongous source for acoustics and studiobuild knowledge, and Ethan answers tons of questions there as well. Maybe your answer is there already, who knows Wink You can find that forum HERE!

It has been either hardwood flooring or laminate at every single studio I was booked by to do voice-overs... be it small project studio's or very bigbucks recording facilities... Maybe I've been sheltered in my studio experience as well, hehehe! Laugh

@Bob Souer: Cello it is then!

Cool lookin' forum, Edo! Do you think Ethan would mind a direct e-mail? Or is he the type of guy who would rather be contacted via forum?

Well, seeing as I've only ever been in 5 (all small and independent, and two of them being a little shady), I'd say I'm the one who needs to get out more.

Is that forum the type of place where they discuss ideal recording environments, do-it-yourself sound-proofing, and the like?

Thanks again for the suggestions!

I've had conversations with Ethan via email before. Very helpful fellow and very talented. His company's products do work as advertised as well. And that's more than you can say for a lot of so called "sound proofing" sellers.

John Sayer's forum is an awesome tool for the DIY studio builder. I research there often.
