Actually, Kara, depending on the context, that is really good direction. You want an actor to stretch to the limits and then have to pull back a little. _________________ Jeff

Hey Kara & All, how about this little slice of voiceover h@ll:
Client: Do it again.
Talent: Ok sure. How would you like that changed?
Client: I don't know. Just do it again.

I with you Kara. That's pretty much meaningless direction to me. Why? One persons "over the top...the sky is the limit" is another persons "no where near the top... barely two inches off the ground." _________________ . If at first you don't succeed, then bomb disposal probably isn't for you. |

Bitches.
Pull this back.
That's just insulting. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

well yeah, saying it that way is certainly rude. But there's no harm in seeing where an actor can take a character and then having them focus it down. _________________ Jeff

Right! It's a good way to get a grip on an actor's limits.
That isn't what happened to Kara. _________________ DBCooperVO.com |

And another one from the And-Just-Exactly-How-is-That-Supposed-to-be-Helpful?" Hall of Shame:
"Yeah, uh, do it again, but this time, uh...do it better." (Said with a completely straight face, by the way.) _________________ Doug Turkel (tur-KELL)

Rule:
Huge jobs and auditions will come when you are on vacation or have something going on in which you absolutely cannot get out of.
Also, ending sentences with 'of' will never impress anyone _________________ Ben

Don't worry about that "preposition at the end of a sentence" thing.
It is a falsely constructed complaint.
Quote: | Some of the "rules" of English grammar that you learned in school were devised by pedants who believed that English was inferior to Latin and should be improved by forcing it onto the Procrustean bed of Latin grammar. But English is descended from an ancestral German dialect, not from Latin, and certain of the rules based on Latin grammar simply do not fit the structure of English. |

I heartily agree... the point is to write clearly and succinctly when possible, and if a sentence ends with a preposition and is clear and succinct, then so be it. That being said, I do try to avoid ending with preps if it makes the sentence (and delivery) sound clunky.
That flies in the face of the rules that Sister Mary Aloysius drummed into my head in fourth grade... ah well... _________________ Charter Member: Threadjackers Local 420 |

Ahh yes, thanks DB. You know your stuff indeed.
You know what I always say though.....of all the purest, most un-borrowed forms of language out there, English is the Creme de la Creme. LOL!!!
It's a joke. _________________ Ben

this seems like as good a place as any for this ...
1) 10/27/07: client sent me 22 scripts ... voiced and posted the scripts to FTP, as per agreement for approval.
2) 10/29/07: i email client that their files are up and awaiting approval
3) 11/5/07: see #2
4) 11/10/07: client's boss emails wondering why we are so behind and i explain #1, #2 & #3 ... she says she'll get right on it.
5) 11/14/07: boss says "hey - where is my audio?" i say "your employee need to approve the audio. she says she'll get right on it.
5) 11/15/07: i get an email from employee ... the COPY FOR THE SCRIPTS I VOICED 3 WEEKS AGO!
6) minutes ago: ARRRRRUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!@!@!! _________________ "i know philip banks": todd ellis
