Anthony,
Interesting story. Phil seems to forget the many people working in radio are there because they have faces for radio, not TV. _________________ Be well,

Funny you should mention it!
I attended a meeting today to discuss a company's request to build sets for several area cable channels to produce live local morning shows. It would be something like "Mike & Mike" on ESPN2 except from a local information point of view.
We have designed robotic cameras and automatic switchers, sound processing and insertable screeen grabs for constant weather, news and anything else they want.
It's coming. "Leave Radio Before it Leaves You."
Now, about that "face for radio."

Well if radio on TV ever comes about I will have them make me a characterization which emulates my every move and expression... then I can look good -- forever or -- finally.

Once again Frank, you may be on to something there.....
I like that idea. That may extend a lot of careers.

Very interesting!
The radio station I work for is hooked up with a low power TV station in town and they broadcast the morning show live Mon-Fri from 5:30am - 9:00am. There are two remote-controlled camera's in the control studio and the TV station takes the audio feed directly off the air. We've been doing it since the first of the year. It's working very well for both the radio and TV station. |

seriously, allen? (and ... hi!)
cuz when i'm listening to radio outside the market (and granted, it's podunk idaho or some such) and i hear tv audio on the radio, invariably i hear:
"look at this weather pattern. you can see from this blue space that the change is churning off the west coast"
which cracks me up ...
and apologies to ackerman and kara's hubbs cuz i have no idea what kind of weather pattern i mentioned in that example _________________ sitting at #8, though not as present as I'd like to be. Hello!

Hi DM! Yeah, seriously. The one thing the morning guy had to do...after much reminding, was to stop saying, "As you can see, we have a guest in the studio this morning." I have "reminded" him many times NOT to do that. I would tell him, "You're on the RADIO! Listeners can't SEE anything!" He also started getting into looking at the camera while he was talking....that too, is a NO, NO. It took his attention away from the radio and put it on the TV. Me and some other folks told him not to do that. He looked ridiculous with that headset on looking into the camera anyway So now, he pretty much ignores the TV part and just does the morning show. Every now and then he'll slip up though. It has been an interesting time with the camera's in the studio. I've had to deal with it a few times when I filled in for the morning guy. There is a TV in the control room (like many stations have) for weather and the such....and the morning guy keeps it on himself while he's on the air. I don't...I put it on the weather channel so I don't have to watch myself. It's distracting anyway. |
