Quote: | Boston Accent Needed for Voice Over Job (Male)

Los Angeles based Travel DVD firm is looking for an actor to narrate a 45 minute DVD about the Boston area. Ths series of DVDs goes for a "first person" approach to each project, so we like to work with as many local folks as we can, and we want each project to have the "feel" of the place we are describing. So on this Boston project we are looking for an actor that can give us an "authentic" New England accent. We aren't looking for a cartoon here. Instead, we are looking for the narration to sound as if one the friendly natives is giving us a tour of the city. The voice should be friendly, but authoratative at the same time. And we are looking for an actor with a good sense of irony and the ability to bring out the more humorous elements in a text.
Here's the catch. We need to do this remotely, as we are located in LA, and to be honest, I am not that impressed with the talent I am seeing on this side of the continent. So, the person we hire has to have his own recording capacity and be willing to work with our director to tweak the performance as needed. Usually for this job, we would pay a flat rate of $300, but if you do all the engineering, I am willing to double it for this job. However, that means working til the job is done and not bailing out after the first take. Send me an email if you are interested, and I will zip you back a paragraph of text to read.
Location: Telecommute
Compensation: $600 for entire job (about 45 minute DVD, plus 10-15 minutes of bonus material)

For the rate they're asking for, I'm not surprised with this statement.

Duh. They were looking in LA for actors?? Geez, what were they thinking? I guess they went to the wrong restaurant or Starbucks. _________________ Jeff

Somebody really needs to reply to this person with that very fact - "for the rates you are paying - no wonder you are not impressed..." _________________ Playing for a living...

In all fainess, this was posted on a local Craigslist, not a VO clearinghouse. An out of work actor, stage or screen, not a VO actor, could pull this off. Out of work actors make that kind of money waiting tables for a week!
The only rub, is that the actor would have to have the equipment and know how to use it.
Sounds like this might be a business to business or tourism DVD. Not exactly the Discovery Channel.
In the New real world of VO (internet and $500 worth of equipment)
they will find somebody good enough for this job.
Some projects pay $50, some pay $1500 for the same thing. Dollar cost averaging. Get 'ya some! _________________ www.asapaudio.com |
