Vic,

I so wish I could apply to be on your roster, but I already have agency representation in Cleveland.

Are you still going to be voicing? Because if you ARE, isn't there some sort of conflict of interest here?

Either way, luck and prosperity to ya, man!

PEACE.

Somewhat along the same line as Anthony's comment... If you are "a full blown talent agent" as your document says, I hope you are licensed in the state as a talent agent. Otherwise, you will surely suffer the wrath of every other agent in the state and face serious trouble. I say this because a man in Houston did much the same thing you outline and the other agents were successful in getting him shut down, heavily fined and stuck with a felony.

Just saying...

Good luck!

Hey you guys! Give Vic a little more credit! He's been working on this for quite awhile and his mentors and advisors are some of the top people in our business. Just sayin'!

Let me just clarify a few things:

Amy, I am not, by any means, not giving "credit" to Victor. Dave's post is NOT "along the same line as [my] comment[s]." I'm quite sure he did his due diligence in setting up the agency. My point is that an active vo heading up a talent agency with access to breakdowns, casting, and other sources usually not afforded directly to a talent can be a serious conflict of interest and SHOULD be of concern to all represented talent of this agency. I'd be interested to know how Victor will address this issue, because I'm sure he's thought of it or it has been mentioned to him.

Finally, I don't understand what exactly this board is for if not for open discussion. When a member of this board proposes an idea, we should not feel obligated to endorse their ideas just because they're members of this board. Heck, one of my closest friends, KG, whom I met right on this board, has ideas that I criticize... he's still my friend. More importantly, most of the visitors of this board are "aspiring" talent with a desire to enter this business or take the next step in their careers - arguments or opinions that oppose OTHER ideas and opinions can only benefit the membership or "lurkers" by allowing them to see the WHOLE picture.

I do sincerely wish Victor the best in his agency - that's EXCITING, BUT this issue of an active VO running an agency or representing OTHER vo's is something that needs to be addressed before anyone considers submitting themselves for representation.

PEACE. And have a nice weekend! Love ya.
-Anthony

EDIT: Here's another concern (not criticism): The agency business usually "cell-divides," agents come from agents - whether they were assistants or agents at OTHER agencies, they usually come from within in one way or another. Rarely, if ever, does someone just "become" an agent - those that do might be, for lack of a better phrase, eaten alive. I'd be interested in knowing Victor's background before considering him representing me. AGAIN, not a personal attack (God forbid my opinion oppose another member's), just a legitimate question that needs to be addressed. An agency's sole leads or breakdowns should not be derived from Voicebank alone.

I laughed when I read the "must be exclusive to Cleveland" part because out of context (outside of the USA) that really is funny. Someone once wrote on a forum that I got SO much work because of my local market! This was written without even a hint of irony.

This thread was started to give some PR to Victor launching a new agency and as far as I can tell it was never intended to be a subject for discussion.

Should he start?
Can he start?
Is it in the interest of a VO to sign with this agency?

Perhaps we should have a section "Woot or be silent"

To Victor - I wish you every success with your new venture.

Everyone else, have a fabby weekend.

Hey Gang,

Not that I owe any explainations but, here goes.

Amy, Thank you. You are awesome!

Anthony, if you had such concerns, a very simple phone call or email to me would have explained all your concerns and I would glady have answered them. If you have no interest in my agency that is fine. You would have been a fine addition to the catalog. Great chops man. Good luck in your career.

Dave, I will be running this business based out of Cleveland subject to Ohio laws. I am very business minded in this venture with outstanding advisors and legal council. Of course VoiceBank will provide many opportunities. However, I have also been doing all the usual marketing and contact developement as any other talent agency would do in preperation of such a venture. Thank you for your concerns. If you are no longer interested in joining our talent pool, I will delete your email I recieved on Tuesday from my list of people to call. Best of luck to you.

Philip, Thank you for your kind wishes. I do have a very sound reason for exclusitivity. I have explained this reason to all interested parties because of exclusive contracts with some very large local ad companies and to be honest, this is a serious business, I don't want my local competitors to make money with a talent I represent. Many talents have advised me in advance of any business dealings and clients they already have in the area to which I have no problems, concerns, or interests. Talents are more then welcome and encouraged to have all the agents they want outside of the Cleveland market. Thanks Philip, you are truely an awesome talent.

Thank you for your concerns. Have a nice weekend. Bitchin

Victor,

The sole reason for my post was to make you/anyone aware (if needed) that there is much more to being an agent that proclaiming such. There are many legalities involved as I now learn you seem to be on top of. Bully for you! I was not throwing stones... my post was meant only as a FYI (if needed) to avoid complications because I consider the folks on this board as friends...at a minimum...and many as family. Again, based upon a recent episode here in Houston. I (perhaps unlike Anthony) have no qualms about your representing me. I submitted my demo information in good faith and would welcome the opportunity to discuss the matter further.

Whew.... "can't we all just get along" (tongue in cheek folks!)

Just for the record - I apologized to Victor for posting before addressing my concerns with him. His intention for posting, as Banksey stated, was for publicity and NOT for discussion.

HOWEVER, I still maintain my opinion on possible professional conflicts, but wish Victor the very best with the new agency.

PEACE.
