I haven't posted in awhile, but I'm always looking for ways to shorten or kill colds before they start, and I know you guys are too. Here's something that worked for me this week. I used an anti-viral/anti-inflammatory called Gan Mao Ling, got it from my acupuncturist, but they also have it in natural food stores. Take 6 tablets (they're small) every 4 hours. I also hedged my bets with Western meds, did Zicam swabs (nose) and rapid melt tablets (throat) and Airborne every 4 hours for the first day or two. After the first 3 days I just did the Gan Mao Ling. It totally worked, so thought I'd share Laugh

When I feel something coming on, I start chugging down at least half gallon of white grapefruit juice a day. It has worked for me for years.

Have you considered that after 3 days you just got better?

I gargle with Hydrogen Peroxide and water at the first signs and use Zicam sprays.

I also go through a ton of hand sanitizer, especially this time of year. It's worked for a couple years now.

OCD'ly yours,

Yup, it is nasty, but sure seems to work.

Got my kids to try it a couple of times. Now they would rather get sick.

ever since someone here suggested a Neti-pot, I've been using it... during hay fever season it has been great! Nary a sniffle since starting.

Not straight. But once the bottle of scope or Listerine has enough room, pour about a half cup in it and mix it up. Now you have the "Whitening" mouthwash that you usually pay extra for. Doesn't taste bad at all and gets your mouth even cleaner.

I've gargled with hydrogen peroxide straight... like 10 years ago, when tooth whitening became the rage. It doesn't taste good, but it does clean out the mouth. Dentist did say it was totally fine to use, just don't swallow it.

For colds, I rely on Airborne generally. Though I worry about taking too much of it, and I just noticed they added a new disclaimer on the package that you're not supposed to take it more than three or four times a day (I can't remember which). If you don't take it religiously when you're ill, it doesn't work.

I also use the essential oil called thieves. Two drops on the tongue, followed by a bunch of water. A few times a day when I'm around sick people, or really, just a lot of people, or feel something coming on. I'm asking for an essential oil diffuser for Christmas, so I can diffuse it in the house.

I too was enthralled by the neti pot conversation here a few months back. My husband has horrible allergies and sinus issues. I didn't get the pot though... I did get the bottle with the little packets that you mix the solution, and squirt. HOWEVER, neither he nor I have had the guts to use it yet.... it's still sitting on the bathroom counter. I'm afraid!!! So is he, I think! Eventually, we'll have the courage... Smile
